Conrad London St. James launces new collection of Afternoon Teas for S/S 2016

Conrad Catwalk afternoon tea
February brings a bright and creative start to the year with two new limited edition creations from Executive Pastry Chef Zoe Wager at Conrad London St. James. Established as a key London afternoon tea destination noted for its creative flair; Conrad Catwalk showcases a walk through the fashion’s most icon eras whilst An English Country Garden offers a quintessentially British approach to spring time.

Zoe Wager, Executive Pastry Chef at Conrad London St. James commented, “Afternoon tea should be a delight for the senses.  This year we have created refreshing and original concepts for our S/S 2016 collection of afternoon teas.   The teas have been designed to invoke style and excitement into a much loved British tradition.”

Conrad Catwalk: 15th February 2016 – 4th April 2016
The ever changing face of fashion is the inspiration behind the Conrad Catwalk afternoon tea. Elegant canapés and light bites create a delicious journey through the years of fashion.

Try the edgy and unique translation of Vivienne Westwood’s movement into a punk marshmallow tea cake with cherry marshmallow and pineapple crisp. Preserved as one of the most simple and timeless patterns in fashion, the stripe appears as layers of white and dark chocolate mousse on caramel biscuit pearls. Style befitting of Jean Paul Gautier himself.

Another classic era in fashion personified by Audrey Hepburn and Chanel’s classic design, ruffles and pearls is a cassis mouse with marbled chocolate wafer. The Polka Dot Shot is a tangy and delicious lime posset with passionfruit, blackberry and yoghurt cake. Combining fashion’s wit and elegance this dessert is guaranteed to flirt with the senses.

Bites of delicate savoury morsels include crisp beetroot wafer cones with smoked mackerel, horseradish and beetroot caviar. Miniature cherry tatin with onion confit and whipped cheese choux with crispy parmesan delight the palate; whilst the delicious selection of individual finger sandwiches include smoked salmon and crème fraiche and coronation chicken. The traditional scone has been reinvented with flavours of vanilla bean, raspberry and served strawberry jam, clotted cream and passionfruit curd.

Conrad Catwalk afternoon tea is available at £65 per person with free flowing G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Champagne or £39 per person without champagne.

An English Country Garden: 5th April 2016 – 19th June 2016
Bright and crisp flavours and a fresh spring day are the embodiment of An English Country Garden. Seasonal ingredients have been brought together to offer a light refreshing afternoon tea. Delightful colours intertwine with innovative flavours such as olive oil cake with a palate cleansing twist of fresh blood orange. Presented on a rustic slate, individual roses bloom upwards in the form of apple and elderflower tarts offering a delicate floral interlude. Miniature window boxes burst with flowers, growing from a bed of chocolate ganache & crisp wafer, decorated with baby macaroons, pistachio sponge and chocolate leaves. Colourful chocolate butterflies flutter on a bourbon biscuit with pistachio.

The botanical savoury offering showcases fresh ingredients such as smoked salmon and cucumber open sandwiches and chicken and basil tart. Fresh garden produce includes pea panna cotta with whipped feta, mint and pea shoots.  Finger sandwiches include roast beef & English mustard, cucumber & cream cheese, and chicken & avocado and open egg roll with chopped chive

Afternoon tea would not be complete without scones; the unique selection of lemon thyme and candied black olive which are served with strawberry jam, clotted cream and raspberry & rose curd offering a delicious combination of flavours.
