Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas joins National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World

Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas has announced it will be joining National Geographic`s Unique Lodges of the World, a collection of boutique hotels in extraordinary places where sustainability is the touchstone and the guest experience is exceptionally rich. Nestled in a world-class national park teeming with wildlife, untouched nature and idyllic enclaves, the property is an ideal fit for the brand and will be the second in Europe to join out of thirty properties worldwide

This follows the hotel’s win as Europe’s Best Luxury Hideaway Resort at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2015 and complements its membership of the Zagori Excellence Network and Small Luxury Hotels of the World.  

Guest Experiences
Hardly on the tourist radar, the hotel is surrounded by the spectacular Zagori region, which is currently under consideration for the UNESCO world heritage list and home to a myriad of hidden enclaves. Given its close proximity to the incredible Pindus Mountains, guests can enjoy kayaking in the Voidomatis River as well as canyoning, hand gliding and excursions to the Gamila Mountain Peaks and the Drakolimni Lake. During these activities, one can admire the old arched stone bridges, the cobbled streets that converge at small picturesque squares, the incredible gorges and alpine altitude lakes, as well as the breath-taking views of the Vikos Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. Visitors can also hike the Steps of Vradeto, an impressive 200 year old cobbled path with 1000 steps.  

For gourmet guests, the hotel also offers a curated foraging expedition and feast prepared with gathered ingredients as part of their Mushroom Hunting Package. The property’s expert mountain guide lead foragers far from the walking paths and into the forests to discover edible varieties of mushrooms which thrive in the damp, cool mountain air. Mushroom orientated dishes draw on traditional recipes and are complemented by wild boar brought in by local hunters, greens collected from the mountainside, cheese from nearby farms and a cellar brimming with extraordinary Greek wine.  

Sustainability
Aristi Mountain Resort & Spa is built in complete harmony with the surrounding landscape and the local architectural style. Local materials, stone and wood decorate the interiors and exteriors of the hotel, while operational needs are environmentally sustainable and low impact. The hotel is also proud to support the local economy, with staff, activity partners and produce sourced from the surrounding villages.  

Farm to Table
Aristi Mountain Resort & Villas is seamlessly on trend with the farm to table movement sweeping the industry, utilising organic ingredients from their very own vegetable garden, free-range meats and sourcing others from local farmers and artisan producers. This is reflected in the property’s restaurant Salvia, named after the indigenous herb of the Zagori area, which is known for its medicinal and aromatic properties. With an extensive menu balancing tradition with innovation, guests can be immersed in the surrounding region with celebrated Epirotic recipes such as Galotiri. This continues as guests return to their rooms, with a fully-stocked mini-bar featuring local beverages such as tsipouro spirits, wine, sparkling spring water and Greek treats such as pasteli (honey/nut bars), mantolato (soft nougat) and halva (sweets made with sesame paste).
