Vamizi Island announces new wellness retreats

Vamizi wellness programme
From November 2015, Vamizi will be offering bi-annual week-long getaway retreats with a daily programme of meditation, yoga, pilates and rejuvenating massage treatments to restore and re-balance. Welcoming a maximum of ten adults, who will be accommodated together in one of Vamizi’s stunning beachfront private villas, retreats have been carefully designed by experienced yogi, Lisa Jane Wright, to encourage personal vitality and re-connection, creating nurturing journeys for individuals of different abilities in a shared wellness environment.

The ‘7-day Vamizi wellness programme’ tailored onsite to each guest’s particular needs, will include:
• Sunrise meditation and wake-up flow, facilitating balance, peace and stillness through this grounding practice.
• Twice daily yoga practice (90 minute sessions) using Hatha, flow yoga to help connect body and breath through gentle movement. During the course of the week, instructors will introduce new poses and balances to advance individual levels and take guests deeper into the practice.
• Sundown Yoga Nidra (Yogic sleep) enables one to receive intuition from the unconscious mind.
• Daily 45-minute massage treatment including aromatherapy massage, deep tissue massage and lymph drainage to relax body and mind.

Yoga and guided meditation sessions are held outdoors on the natural wooden decks of the private villa, under a makuti shade on a castaway beach or at sunset at the top of a look-out tower in the cool breeze from the sea.

Complimenting the wellness activities, specially designed menus of detoxifying juices, fresh soups and salads rich in antioxidants, along with plates of sashimi straight from the ocean, will leave guests glowing with health from the inside.

Lisa Jane Wright is a qualified instructor specialising in Therapeutic Bodywork (including yoga, pilates, massage and mediation) to promote holistic stress-free wellbeing and to inspire well-balanced, healthy lifestyle choices. Her vast experience coupled with twenty years of dance training places Lisa in a unique position to fully understand body movement and intuitively tailor-make each session according to individual needs. Lisa has recently run several successful private island yoga retreats on Silver Island in Greece and has taught previously on Vamizi Island, as well as in Morocco, the Seychelles and India.

Assisting Lisa will be Tasmin Lutge who has proved a popular yoga instructor and therapist on her many visits to Vamizi. Tasmin is a trained beauty therapist, specialising in healing techniques such as reflexology, lymph drainage and liquid body massage, combining thai massage, aromatherapy and yoga to create a unique dynamic treatment which improves alignment and deep muscle relaxation.

Awarded “Best Healthy Hideaway” at the Condé Nast Traveller Spa Awards 2014, Vamizi Island has long been known as a castaway sanctuary for bespoke nurturing.  And it’s easy to see why.  The unspoilt island has miles of unpadded sand, and as one big spa, the island nurtures its guests from inside out.  A stay here is a reminder that nature is the most powerful spa of all to unwind from the stresses of everyday life.  Vamizi’s therapists have created an exotic selection of wellness treatments including aromatherapy massage, detox treatments, reflexology, facials, and head massages, using natural recipes borrowed from local women on the island combining African organic ingredients that are sourced from local farmers.

Vamizi’s Wellness Retreats for 2015 and 2016 will take place on the following dates:
14th – 21st November 2015

7th – 14th May 2016

5th – 12th November 2016

The Vamizi Wellness Retreats are available from £3,987 (6,210$) per person based on 2 adults sharing a double room, and includes transfers to/from Vamizi from Pemba, 7 nights’ shared accommodation in one of Vamizi’s private villas, all meals, soft drinks, local beer, wine, spirits, bottled water as well as a daily programme of yoga, meditation and massage therapy as described above. Guests will also be able to make use of the island’s other activities including shore based snorkelling, birding, walking trails, beach picnics, dhow sailing and Hobie Cat sailing.  Please note places are restricted to a maximum of 10 adults.
