The Coniston Hotel sits on the 1,400 acre Coniston Estate between Skipton and Settle, and was voted Yorkshire’s “Large Hotel of the Year” in the last Welcome to Yorkshire White Rose Awards. Already boasting a wide range of estate activities including a CPSA Premier Plus Clay Pigeon Shoot, Archery, Falconry, Fishing and Cycling, the arrival of The Coniston 4x4 Driving Experience, to replace the previous franchised Land Rover experience, means that the direction of the whole business is completely in the hands of the owners, Michael and Ethne Bannister and their family.
According to Michael Bannister, the new business has involved a sizeable investment in six 4x4 vehicles. “We have brought a superb fleet of Land Rover, Range Rover and Kubota RTV vehicles to the Estate”, he said, “and with the estate already boasting one of the best off-road sites in the north of England, we expect it to be very popular with businesses and tourists alike”.
The 4x4 Experience involves a team of professionally trained instructors guiding customers through a wide range of obstacles including steep hill climbs, gullies, ridges and water splashes. 4x4 Driving Experience Manager Craig Dunkerley will be in charge of the operation. Craig already has strong links with companies in North and West Yorkshire through his previous work in the automotive industry in the UK. Having worked extensively with Land Rover and Chrysler Jeep in Europe and Africa too, he will be introducing new offers to The Coniston such as 4x4 driving courses, trailer towing, vehicle recovery and winching techniques, and wide-ranging corporate team-building activities.
The Coniston 4x4 Driving Experience is expected to create up to eight new jobs at The Coniston, to go with the 35 new jobs on the estate which were announced with the development of the Spa at The Coniston, which is due to open this Autumn.
