Donnafugata sets sights on prestigious global luxury award

Donnafugata Golf Resort & SPA’s position among Europe’s elite luxury golf and lifestyle resorts has received a glowing endorsement after being shortlisted for a leading honour at the Prestigious Star Awards 2015.
The deluxe venue in Ragusa, south-east Sicily, which boasts outstanding five-star facilities including two 18-hole championship courses, is one of the leading nominees to be named as the ‘Most Prestigious Sporting Venue 2015’ when the winners are announced at a lavish prize-giving ceremony in London on September 18.

Organised by Prestigious Venues, the Prestigious Star Awards celebrate the quality, performance and reputation of the world’s best and most distinguished venues qualified to host the most memorable events.

Now in its sixth year, the program remains the only global luxury venue industry awards, with only a tenth of the 2,000-plus reputable venues being nominated for the 20 award categories. Public voting takes place in July with the winners then announced in the autumn.

Prestigious Venues brings together a selection of the world’s leading event venues in one portfolio, with Donnafugata Resort becoming the first golfing venue in Italy to be invited to join the exclusive group earlier in the year.

Easily accessible from Catania and Comiso international airport – just 15 minutes away – the Resort offers the perfect base to enjoy a five-star golfing break or relax in an idyllic climate and experience some of the many cultural, spa and gastronomic delights of the largest island in the Mediterranean.

Donnafugata boasts a number of fantastic historical cities to explore nearby including Val di Noto, the heart of Sicilian baroque; Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Siracuse, Noto and Scicli. All are deemed fitting of UNESCO World Heritage status.

The Resort is home to a luxury 900m2 Spa with indoor pool, hydro-massage, sauna, steam bath and gym areas, with a range of seasonally-selected treatments available, while the award-winning venue’s location offers the ideal opportunity to explore the unique gastronomic delights of the region.

Host of the 2011 Sicilian Open and featuring two 18-hole championship courses, Donnafugata Golf Resort & SPA has won widespread praise from the golf industry since opening in 2010, and its new Darren Clarke Centre of Excellence – the only one of its kind on the continent featuring Europe’s new Ryder Cup captain – offers a variety of tuition packages and individual lessons for golfers of all abilities aged six and above.

As well as its outstanding golf facilities, Donnafugata Golf Resort & SPA has 202 rooms, two swimming pools, a private beach and three restaurants offering a broad selection of ‘0km food’ locally-sourced gastronomic delights, well accompanied by perfect Sicilian wines to enhance flavour.
