angelo Hotel Katowice celebrates fifth anniversary

The angelo Hotel Katowice opened its doors for guests and business travellers in 2010. Now the hotel is celebrating its 5th anniversary in one of the largest conference centres in downtown Katowice with prominent guests from the worlds of business, politics and journalism.

The angelo Hotel Katowice combines the advantages of a business and tourist hotel, an assurance of success all year round. A member of Vienna International Hotelmanagement AG, the 4-star hotel was a visionary investment. Both investors were convinced of the success of the hotel: “The angelo Hotel in Poland’s second-largest city of Katowice was a classic early-bird investment,” stated Dr Rudolf Grossmayer from UBM. “True to the motto of André Kostolany to “buy when the cannons are thundering”, the investment was launched at the beginning of the subprime crisis. Looking back, this courageous anti-cyclic decision was the right choice: the angelo Hotel Katowice quickly developed into a profitable hotel. Due to the low interest rates in the euro region, funds and institutional investors are again directing their vision towards Eastern Europe. With the positive development, UBM is optimistic to conclude the investment with a high profitability within the next few years.”

Dr Franz Jurkowitsch, the CEO of Warimpex, stated: “In our portfolio, areas of high population density have always played an important role. For this reason, we decided early for the development of the angelo Hotel in the city of Katowice, one of the most important economic and industrial destinations in Poland. The target was especially to fulfil the needs of the business traveller.”

Partnership with the city
Katowice, located in the Upper Silesian region, seems to be the ideal destination for MICE clients and individual tourists. The angelo Hotel was involved in the promotion of Silesia from the very beginning, especially in the conference and events industry. The hotel management is aware that its success depends on the success of the city. Katowice is in a constant process of change for the better. In the “European Cities and Regions of the Future” ranking for the years 2014/2015, Katowice was named as the best place introducing strategies aimed at gaining new foreign investors.

Krzysztof Mikuła, vice mayer of Katowice, points out: “There are many changes in Katowice: We are working on the business and individual tourism potential, an investment-friendly image, and modern and “green” factors for the city. It is a matter of fact that the angelo Hotel belongs to the group of innovators who are changing the reality of this city.”

Since the hotel opening in 2010, a steady increase of the overall development has been seen in the results. The occupancy has reached an average of 60%, the hotel has hosted over 230,000 bed nights and more than 3,100 conferences and events resulting in a turnover of € 21 million.

“We are proud to be a part of this city. We do our best to support local business, tourism and culture,” says Tomasz Piórkowski, General Manager of the angelo Hotel Katowice. “During the last year, the hotel became an official home for many volleyball teams during the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Poland 2014. In recent years, the angelo Hotel Katowice has been cooperating with the Lang Team (organizer of the Tour de Pologne), the Polish Association of Basketball, and with organizers of music festivals such as the Off Festival,” Piórkowski says of the high demand for the hotel.

These actions resulted in numerous prestigious awards. In 2014 alone, TripAdvisor awarded the angelo with the “Certificate of Excellence”, the Polish Enterprise Congress favoured the hotel with the “Best Quality” title and Travel Managers of HRS honoured the angelo Hotel Katowice with two awards: Hotel of the Year in the category “Business” and “Best Service”.
