Inkaterra opens an Eco-Friendly luxury Hacienda in the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba
Inkaterra has announced the opening of Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, their newest luxury hotel, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The twelve-room traditional Peruvian casa hacienda opened its doors earlier this month, with a further twenty-four boutique casitas joining the property in summer 2015.

Conveniently located between Ollantaytambo and the historical city of Cusco, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba draws architectural vision from the local country state home designs of the region, combined with a traditional colonial flair. The hacienda concept is inspired by the traditional “choclo” (corn) farming that has been sacred to the local community for thousands of years and plays a central role in Peru’s agricultural industry. The surrounding gardens offer the best of the Andean highland nature – flowers, trees and stunning views of the mountains to provide guests with a relaxed, serene and spiritual environment in true Inkaterra style.

Local materials, comfort, art and design are at the heart of Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba’s “Andean luxury” interior design concept. Guests can chose from four luxury room options, each offering spectacular views, along with their own personal touches and characteristics. The Urubamba Suites are spacious yet cosy, with a traditional fireplace, while the Urubamba Superior Deluxe rooms douse guests in luxury with 100% pima cotton sheets and private terrace. Those wanting the best of the Inkaterra experience can opt for the prestigious Urubamba Owners Quarters, an exclusive and spacious duplex at the top of the hacienda.

The 10-acre (4.47has.) farm surrounding the hacienda is managed solely using traditional tools such as “tacllas”, Andean foot ploughs and oxen, and serves as a living showcase of authentic Andean farming, with the opportunity for guests to get involved.

Emphasising Inkaterra’s core philosophy of respecting the environment, Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba offers a number of eco-tours and excursions for guests in English, Spanish and French. Activities include native farming, walks and hikes along the hillside within the property and to an uphill cocha (natural lake), learning about quiñales (quinoa culture) and llama cart activities.

An Andean Adventure – Excursions & Experiences
Even the most seasoned travellers will find themselves enchanted by the colour and vibrancy of the Peruvian culture, whether it’s the picturesque villages and landscapes, traditional arts and crafts or the friendliness of the locals.

An ideal place to start any Andean adventure and acclimatise before a visit to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas houses an array of Incan ruins and archaeological sites. Those looking to explore the fascinating array of Andean wildlife can opt for the “Birds of Urubamba” excursion, a quarter day programme that educates guests on the rare and wonderful birds, from hawks to hummingbirds, that also take up residence in the Sacred Valley.

Other popular excursion include visits to the famous Ollantaytambo Inca temple and fortress as well as Maras & Moray, an ancient Inca Maras salt mine, where guests can learn the skills used in creating agricultural terraces and ceramics centuries ago. For the active explorer, a number of eco sport adventures are on offer including horseback riding through the Valle Sagrado, mountain biking, river rafting and trekking.

Andean Spa Experience
Those looking to unwind and relax in a pampering environment need look no further than Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba’s spa, set to open early 2016. Inspired by the natural flora of the Andean mountains, the spa will offer a bespoke wellness menu as well as the opportunity for guests to create their own aromatic treatment oils, for a truly personal and unique experience.

This exciting new opening starts the first of many initiatives from Inkaterra as they celebrate their 40th anniversary of sustainable tourism in Peru this year.

Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba will join Inkaterra’s already impressive portfolio of properties with rates starting from £362 per night for a Superior Deluxe room.
