Ascott teams up with Samsung to create high-tech apartments

The Ascott Limited will become the first global serviced apartment provider to embrace the ‘Internet of Things’ technology at its properties to offer guests a smart living experience. In an exclusive collaboration with Samsung, this technology will be customised for Ascott’s serviced apartments. It will enable guests to control multiple devices in their apartment from an application on their smartphone or tablet that connects the personal and home devices through an integrated platform and server.

From turning on the TV to scheduling the washing machine, this industry-leading app will allow guests to control their in-room technology wherever they are, including when they are away from the apartment. The smart app can even be timed to turn on the lights and turn on the kettle in the morning based on when guests intend to get out of bed. They will also be able to view the apartment in real time using their smartphones through remote cameras in the air con unit or robot cleaner.

Mr Lee Chee Koon, chief executive officer at The Ascott Limited, said; “As a global leader in serviced residences, Ascott continuously seeks to test and innovate new ideas to ensure that we are at the forefront of the industry. The Internet of Things technology is on the brink of quick adoption and will come at a speed we can barely imagine.

It will enable us to gain real-time insights to better understand the lifestyle and preferences of our guests and to anticipate their needs. Ascott aims to transform these complex data into useful information to improve customer experience and operational efficiency.”

“We are confident that Ascott’s strategic alliance with Samsung, one of the world’s biggest electronics companies with extensive experience in smart home technology, will make this compelling vision of a next-generation serviced residence a reality.”

Mr Yong Sung Jeon, president and chief executive officer, Samsung Electronics Southeast Asia and Oceania, said: “We are pleased to be working with Ascott to bring to life smart living in the serviced residence industry and make life better and more comfortable for consumers.”

Ascott will work closely with Samsung to co-innovate and test the customised hospitality solutions, with initial development work done at Ascott’s Innovation Hub in Singapore. It will begin trials of the new technology in 2016 in ‘Samsung Experience’ suites or residents’ lounges at selected properties before rolling it out across all of its serviced residences worldwide.
