Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul: sustainability is the business model

In recognition of its continued commitment to sustainable best practices, the hotel was recently re-certified by Green Globe for the third year running. It attained an impressive compliance score of 94% against the newly accredited V1.7 criteria.

Frank Reichenbach, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul and Regional Manager Turkey said, “It is a pleasure and sign of our dedication towards Green Globe’s high standards that the Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul was re-certified in 2015 after passing a detailed audit. Being Green Globe certified for us is a necessity as many customers choose our hotel for this reason.

“Sustainability is an important part of our business model and we constantly encourage our employees to learn more about environmental and sustainability issues,” added Mr. Reichenbach.

All employees receive regular training on sustainability initiatives during induction days, during Ecolab training and hygiene training that is conducted in the kitchens.

As the largest international hotel and resort chain to be certified by Green Globe, several other Mövenpick properties in Turkey are also active Green Globe members.

Mr. Reichenbach further explained, “As a part of a worldwide initiative by Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts designed to set a global example for sustainability and environmental responsibility, not only Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul but also our other hotels in Turkey, Mövenpick Hotel Izmir and Mövenpick Hotel Ankara have been re-certified this year. We look forward to adding our newest hotel to the growing list, the Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul Golden Horn. The hotel which opened on 31 March 2015 has been built in line with international sustainable construction standards, using recycled materials and the latest energy and water saving technology.”

In accordance with its Sustainability Management Plan, Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul routinely monitors and sets reduction targets for all energy and water consumption whilst also minimizing waste production. In addition, Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul ensures its business activities do not impact negatively on the surrounding environment or community. To boost regional economic development the hotel supports local producers. While only certified or organic products including coffee, spices and meats are preferred in kitchens.
