Courtyard marks 1,000th hotel milestone with global celebrations and 50 million Marriott rewards points

Courtyard by Marriott, the world’s 8th largest hospitality brand is set to reach a milestone with the opening of its 1,000th hotel this year. In line with the opening, celebrations will span over 6 weeks and take place in Courtyard properties across the globe including Europe, with a celebration at Courtyard Cologne on 27 March.

Festivities kicked off with the grand opening of Courtyard Agra in India on the 19th February and will continue with a commemorative party at Courtyard Cologne. A dedicated InstaMeet has been arranged at the hotel to invite top European Instagrammers to a fun exploration around the city of Cologne followed by a party and overnight stay at the hotel.

The party will also be open to hotel guests, who will enjoy complimentary drinks and canapés. Throughout the festivities in Cologne and beyond, live images and feedback will be posted on social media channels under the hashtag #Courtyard1000 and #urbantip.

“This is a truly exciting event for Courtyard in Europe that marks the start of a productive period of development for the brand.  We are expecting 70% of our growth to come from select service brands by 2020, and with several Courtyard openings in the next two years, we will soon have almost 10,000 Courtyard rooms in Europe.” said Amy McPherson, president and managing director, Marriott International Europe.

The global celebrations will culminate on the 31st March – the opening day of Washington’s Courtyard Walla Walla – when all Marriott Rewards customers checking into any Courtyard hotel worldwide will receive 1,000 points as the brand’s milestone gift, a collective estimated 50 million points.

Additional significant celebrations around the world will include the grand opening of Courtyard Recife Boa Viagem in Brazil, which marks the brand’s first property in the country, as well as Courtyard Abu Dhabi, the first Marriott-endorsed hotel in the capital city of the U.A.E.

“We are extremely proud of how far Courtyard has come,” notes Callette Nielsen, vice president and global brand manager of Courtyard.  “By listening to our customers’ feedback over the past 30 years, we have been able to continually evolve to meet their needs. Our continued global expansion and forthcoming project pipeline is proof that we provide the experience that travellers want, so we would like to thank them for their continued support by sharing our success.”

With the largest global rooms pipeline across the Marriott portfolio, Courtyard expects to expand into 40 countries by summer 2015. With a presence in all 50 U.S. states, 50% of new projects will be outside of the brand’s home country including several new hotels planned for Europe by end 2016. Courtyard celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2013 and remains Marriott’s second largest revenue generator.
