Sankara Nairobi acquires Safe Hotels Premium Certificate - first hotel in the world

Sankara Nairobi received accreditation from Safe Hotels for its excellence in safety and crisis management. Sankara Nairobi is the first Hotel in the World to receive the Premium level accolade.
In attendance to issue the certificate was Global Operations Director, Andy Williams who noted, “The hotel is the first ever to attain the Premium level which is the highest accreditation a hotel can receive. This means that the Hotel has invested in high international security levels”. Last year Sankara Nairobi received the SafeHotels certification which is based on keeping good routines and equipment at the hotel.

Receiving the award, the General Manager of Sankara Nairobi, Mr. Moshi Perera noted that this was a huge milestone for the hotel, as “the Hotel’s commitment is to create an environment where guests are ensured of high levels of safety leaving them with room to enjoy their experience”.

Sankara Nairobi is also Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP (DS - 3027: 2002 (E)) Certified. It was the first hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve the certification in 2011.  HACCP is recognised as one of the most rigorous and comprehensive preventative food safety management systems in the world.

Andy Williams of Safe Hotels asserted, “safety is a major concern especially for hotels and should be taken seriously. Our company was created due to the fact that safety is one of the main concerns within the international hotel and meeting industry today.”

Often times, a lack of measures is taken to meet the growing safety and security concerns. Safe Hotels’ solution is to provide objective third party evaluation of business hotel and conference venues’ security standard world wide – covering all important aspects of hotel and conference security.

Safe Hotels is a value added trust symbol developed in Sweden and was founded in 2001 by Hans Kanold who was a Regional Sales and Marketing Director in the hospitality sector. When working with corporate and group accounts, Andy identified a gap relating to the due diligence governance element of the hotel accommodation proposals, which ask for confirmation of safety and security standards within an individual or brand group of hotels. Seeing there was no global standard for hotel safety and security and a gap in the due diligence market, Safe Hotels produced an audit and standard endorsed by organizations such as IBTA – International Business Travellers Association and other Associations since then. The company was formed after years of extensive research of the Travel Trade in general and the Hotel Trade in particular. Safe hotels Alliance AB is formed and supported by experienced and highly respected individuals and organizations in the international travel and security industry.
