andBeyond Sandibe in the Okavango Delta, Bostwana opens

andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge, Botswana
Modernism and nature form a dramatic alliance in the design and concept of the new andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge in Botswana.  The lodge has re-opened following a brilliant transformation and artfully combines sustainable design, natural elements and modern amenities.

The design and building structure of andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge unfolds in a bohemian blend of natural and recycled materials, inspired directly by the nest of a weaver-bird and a pangolin’s body armour. Using organic materials such as wood to execute the structural design and sticking with the natural theme used in the camp’s construction, this off-the-grid lodge relies solely on the latest alternative energy sources, all in line with andBeyond’s core ethos of Care of the Land, Care of the Wildlife, Care of the People.

Joss Kent, CEO at andBeyond states, ‘The innovative design of andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is driven by nature and reflects the sustainable footprint of the lodge while remaining warm and intimate. It is one of the most architecturally impressive lodges in the Delta. ’

The eight new suites are raised above the wild palms and gnarled fig trees, and enjoy stunning views onto the winding channels and lush floodplains of the Delta.  There is one ‘family unit’ made up of two interconnecting suites and four further suites planned for the end of 2014.  Each suite has its own private plunge pool.  Inside the nest-like suites are uncluttered and elegant, becoming private cocoons at night with fireplaces for the winter evenings.

The tone too is natural; rusty tones, copper-clad mekoro, sculpted wooden tables and intricate baskets that celebrate the best of Botswana craft.  While the interactive kitchen station serves local produce.

Set in a maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge offers one of the Delta’s best wildlife experiences with exclusive traversing rights over 55,600 acres of land.  The floodplains are home to giant horned kudu, secretary birds, cheetah, wild dog, elephant, antelope, hippo and giraffe and much, much more.

In June this year Botswana’s Okavango Delta was officially named the 1000th World Heritage Site. Known as “the river that never finds the seas” it lies at the heart of the Kalahari Desert, and now andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge stands as its jewel.
