The individual loyalty prize goes to Derek Samuel who has been making sure the lights don’t go out for 29 years in the Maintenance department.
No request will surprise or confound the Concierge desk, which takes the team award for its 85 years on the job. Head concierge Clive Smith (aka Superman) has been at The Capital for 25 years, supported by Graham Luff (20), Joseph Romin-Portilla (15), Abdennour Brahimi (aka Dino, 14) and Chris Oliver, who is still learning the ropes after a mere 11 years in post. Housekeeping comes a close second with a total of 75 years: Roy Wimbledon (25 years), Carlos Costa (17), Farida Rahli (12), Clara Pires Alvite (11) and Justyna Skrzynecka (10). Front of House duties are led by Lorena Somera and Harald Duttine, who have worked for the company for 11 and 12 years respectively. Cesar Da Silva has manned the Bar with panache for 18 years and plans to be mixing the drinks for at least another 20.
David Levin, who passed the general manager’s mantle to his daughter Kate Levin in 2010, said: 'Staff loyalty is the measure of a healthy outfit. There is no better feeling than to travel the road with great and dependable colleagues within the operation of a family business.'
