InterContinental Fiji races around the world

The InterContinental Fiji family participated in a range of activities including beach cleaning, aerobics, and a mini-triathlon, promoting health and team bonding as part of the global IHG initiative known as Race Around the World.
InterContinental Hotel Group’s (IHG) Race Around the World is a week-long global awareness event for IHG’s Shelter in a Storm charity programme; a disaster relief programme.  IHG Shelter in a Storm guides our IHG’s hotels and resorts through the best way to respond when disaster strikes. Each and every IHG property pledges towards the event and engages staff in various activities with a participant quota on par for the pledged amount.

Fiji has benefited previously from the Shelter in a Storm programme where the resort provided over 30,000kg of essential supplies to the flooded-affected communities surrounding the resort and all of InterContinental Fiji’s employees in the aftermath of the floods in 2012.

InterContinental Fiji scored a total of 2094 – 1118 kilometres and 980 acts for their Race Around the World fundraising. For each act of participation, IHG made a donation into the IHG Shelter Fund. InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa pledged to raise $1800 and had exceeded their goal, raised over F$2000.00 during the week.

“We’re pleased with the results of the campaign as the funds raised will be accessible to us in the event of a disaster,” says Acting Human Resources Manager, Mr. Jacob Pau’u. “With Fiji’s cyclone season approaching in the coming months, it is essential to do what we can to prepare for any disaster that may occur.”

IHG set up the Shelter Fund and established a partnership with CARE International to provide relief to communities following natural and manmade disasters. By fundraising in anticipation of disasters, teams across the world can take immediate and effective action to help communities in crisis.
