‘Where I Belong’ Marriott UK Apprentice Campaign filmed at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall

With high levels of youth unemployment continuing to dominate the UK market, Marriott UK recognises the need to open up opportunities for young people. Their well-known apprenticeship scheme is continually developing, having taken on ten maintenance apprentices since 2012, a figure which is set to double over the next few years. The apprenticeship scheme allows young people to experience the hospitality business whilst earning on the job and studying for NVQ qualifications in the process.

Created in conjunction with leading training provider Babcock, the scheme receives government funding for once a week college placements and is the ideal platform in which to discover what it takes to build a career in a leading global business.

The London Marriott Hotel County Hall recently provided the ideal location for the filming of Marriott UK latest apprentice recruitment campaign promoting the benefits of the initiative on offer throughout the country. Showcasing the Culinary and Maintenance apprenticeship schemes, the four-minute video shadows a number of young apprentices as they go about their daily duties and reveals the opportunities that the scheme has created. Established by the Marriott to develop a distinctive skill set for the Marriott, the apprentices are able to work towards achieving their professional goals, whether that be the next Head Chef or Maintenance Manager at some of the biggest hotels in the UK.

Along with highlighting the main advantages of choosing the Marriott apprenticeship scheme, the recruitment campaign dubbed ‘Where I Belong – Find Your World’, will be used internally to encourage inspiration for a new wave of apprentice trainees all hoping to carve a long and fulfilling career path in catering and hospitality.

Commenting on the most recent campaign, HR Director at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall Alex Dimsdale said, “The ‘Where I Belong’ campaign is designed to evoke a sentimentality and emotive response from young people to ensure that they get the chance to realise their goals of establishing a prosperous career. We need skilled people to take the hospitality business forward and our apprenticeship scheme is devised to enable this, helping young people learn the ropes and become leaders in their field.”

The London Marriott Hotel County Hall has a wealth of opportunity for new Marriott apprentices. Positioned on London’s South Bank over looking Big Ben and the London Eye, the hotel has over 200 bedrooms, a fully equipped leisure club and 25-metre indoor pool for budding maintenance engineers to oversee. Culinary apprentices can also learn from Head Chef Gareth Bowen at Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar, the hotels two AA rosette awarded restaurant serving the best in British produce.
