Maisons & Hotels Sibuet to open Hotel des Dromonts, Avoriaz December 2014

On 12th December 2014, Hotel des Dromonts, in the French ski resort of Avoriaz, will re-open after a complete redesign after becoming part of the luxury Maisons & Hotels Sibuet brand. Fifty years after first opening, the boutique 34-room hotel has been radically re-configured to incorporate state-of-the art facilities and will be decorated in signature Sibuet style.  The hotel will also feature three very different restaurants and a signature Spa Pure Altitude with indoor pool.

Perfectly positioned at an altitude of 1800m for guests who want to take advantage of early and late season snow.  The four-star Hotel des Dromonts, offers a stress free ski in/out access making it the perfect choice for keen skiers who want to maximize their time on the slopes and cover as much of the world-famous Portes du Soleil ski area as possible. With over 296 ski runs, 11 snowparks and 11 boardercross runs right on the doorstep it is one of the most impressive ski areas to explore in the world.

Inspired by 60’s Mod style, with 29 spacious rooms and 6 suites, designed in ‘ski chamber chic’, the interiors will feature cosy fabrics, plush carpets and bright pops of colour to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere that revisits the retro style of the sixties. Hotel des Dromonts will have a dedicated children’s play area within the hotel to reflect Avoriaz’s popularity as a ski destination with families. The striking façade of Hotel de Dromonts will remain – a contemporary architectural landmark in itself, the multi-layered surface is covered in cedar shingles that is typical of Savoyard roofs. A new outdoor terrace will be added onto the exterior offering aprés-ski refreshment and spectacular panoramic views over the Alps.

Hotel des Drumonts’ Pure Altitude Spa will become the go-to destination in Avoriaz for relaxation and rejuvenation. Signature Pure Altitude treatments such as the ‘Bol d’Air Pur’ facial and the ‘Energetic of the Alps’ massage use high-performing Pure Altitude products that harness the active ingredients in Edelweiss and other mountain minerals to soothe tired muscles after a hard day on the slopes. The state-of-the-art Pure Altitude Spa will consist of 3 treatments rooms, a calming relaxation room decorated in locally quarried slate, an indoor swimming pool, a contemporary hammam, a sauna and a terrace with a jacuzzi where guests can relax and take in the mountain views.

In the evenings guests will be able to sample some Savoyard specialties in three of the hotel’s superb new restaurants that cater to every mood. Following on from the success of Les Enfants Terribles in Mégeve and Val-Thorens, the popular bistro will arrive in Avoriaz serving delicious haute-cuisine and the house favourite, ‘steak au poivre’. For those who wish to continue the aprés-ski spirit, Les Enfants Terribles DOWN, will offer a more lively dining experience bringing guests together round the famous bar for cocktails and serving small sharing plates of delicacies such as Ramon Pena sardines and freshly sliced Iberian ham. Finally, for a truly traditional Savoyard experience, The Table du Fromage, will be the perfect spot to enjoy classic alpine fare of fondue, tartiflette and raclette.

The intimate restaurant space will have a resident master of cheese, Monsieur Bojon, who will be on hand to curate a menu to showcase the best cheeses from the local area.

Located above the French resort of Morzine, Avoriaz is linked with 12 other resorts either side of the Swiss-French border and is only an hour from Geneva. The resort was created by the Olympic ski champion Jean Vuarnet and Gerard Bremont in the 1960s and Hotel des Dromonts was the first major work of renowned architect Jacques Labro. Jean’s original vision was to create an avant-garde resort that transported guests away from everyday life with innovative but integrated architecture and for the roads to serve as ski runs. His unique vision is still very much alive today as guests can either ski or travel by horse and cart around the resort and the contemporary architecture compliments the natural environment to create a magical atmosphere.

Double rooms at Hotel des Dromonts are available on a B&B basis from 200€ per night, based on two people sharing.
