Amari Doha offers the ideal base from which to discover Qatar, the Gulf country which combines year-round sunshine and over 500km of coastline with sandy beaches and unique cultural attractions, architecture, and art displays as well as shopping and adventure activities. Amari Doha is the Amari brand’s first property in the Middle East, bringing the signature Amari warmth and a slice of Thai hospitality to the Middle East.

With temperatures in September falling from the heat of the summer months, averaging around 33 degrees Celsius, it’s a great time to visit for a last sprinkling of sunshine before the UK winter sets in.

Whilst in Qatar, top picks not to be missed include The Museum of Islamic Art, widely regarded as the jewel in Qatar’s cultural crown. Stunningly designed and perched on the waterfront offering iconic views, the Museum houses thousands of pieces of artwork from a period spanning over 1,400 years.

Another cultural highlight is the Souq Waqif. The traditional market has been restored to its original glory and is a shopper’s delight - full to the brim with treasures including garments, spices and local handicrafts. It’s a hotspot for the locals so a great destination to while away a few hours sampling an Arabic coffee and watching the world go by. For a more high-end shopping experience or a gift for a special occasion, Souq Waqif is also home to a number of jewellery shops including SOUQ Jewellery Shop in the Gold Souq Alley. Qatar was traditionally a pearl farming nation so pearls make an authentic souvenir. Widely sold, a top spot is the "Pearl Man" shop, located in Al Bida Park in Rumailah, across the Corniche.

Ground breaking exhibitions are a regular occurrence in Qatar, and there are a number of public art displays dotted around Doha. Richard Serra’s contemporary East-West/West-East display is one example of this. Following the 2011 installation of the artist’s first public artwork in the Middle East, 7, East-West/West-East consists of four steel plates, each over fourteen metres in height. The Qatar National Convention Center is also home to a giant bronze spider, the first solo exhibit of the late Louise Bourgeois’ work to be displayed in the Middle East, whilst sculptures by Damien Hirst can be seen in front of the Sidra Medical and Research Centre.

Qatar’s cuisine is a true melting pot with many traditional dishes based around fresh seafood such as lobster, crab, red snapper and shrimp, as well as hummus and lamb. Traditional picks can be experienced from the comfort of Amari Doha in the hotel’s Musheireb Restaurant, an all-day dining venue offering delicious including Arabic and Thai dishes. As well as Musheireb, Amari Doha also offers a further three restaurants and bars.

Outside of the hotel, there are a number of restaurants offering cuisine from Thai to French and Italian. Al Mourjan is well worth an evening visit, situated right on the Corniche offering delicious Lebanese food in a striking waterfront setting.

For adrenaline junkies, no stay in Qatar would be complete without leaving the city behind and heading to the desert to try a hand at ‘Dune Bashing’ by 4X4. Thrill seekers will delight in zooming across the towering dunes at the hands of the expert local drivers, followed by time to relax at the tranquil and unspoilt Inland Sea.
