North Wales’ Ruthin Castle joins Prima Hotel Group’s collection of luxury hotels

Prima Hotel Group (Prima), the leading independent luxury hotel group in the North West, has confirmed that Ruthin Castle is joining its trusted collection of select luxury hotels. The historic grade II listed hotel and spa is situated in Denbighshire, North Wales and its operations will be managed by and branded by Prima.

Ruthin Castle Hotel and Spa was acquired last week by a new joint venture company, Ruthin Castle Estate Ltd, involving private equity firm Kepler Capital, Prima Hotel Group and the existing management team. The joint venture will inject further investment into the property which will cement the hotel’s reputation for excellence across all its offerings.

“This represents a significant opportunity for both Ruthin Castle and our Group. With a strong team managing the re-structured operations, underpinned by a solid business model which will move the property forward, Ruthin Castle can guarantee its visitors an uninterrupted and enhanced service. It remains firmly at the heart of the local community as a thriving and successful business, and a landmark destination venue attracting visitors to the area,” comments Liam Walshe, CEO of Prima Hotels Group.

“We’re delighted to bring Ruthin Castle into the Prima Hotel Group family. We have an excellent track record of running successful hotels in the North West of England, Wales and Scotland and look forward to delivering a bright future for Ruthin Castle” adds Walshe.

Former owner, Anthony Saint Claire, comments: “Following the investment to secure 4 star listing, it was clear that the hotel required further investment to ensure it had a prosperous and positive future.  The sale has facilitated this and I’m pleased to remain involved with the business as part of the joint venture company, bringing my specialist experience and knowledge to inform future plans.”

A spokesperson for Kepler Capital said: “We are extremely proud to be part of such an exciting joint venture and to work with a team of experienced partners. Ruthin Castle represents an exciting opportunity for us and is the first of a number of planned equity investments we intend to make in the UK hospitality sector.”

Ruthin Castle is an established and popular 4-star castle venue set in the town of Ruthin in North Wales. It employs around 100 staff and is the largest employer in the local area. The acquisition has safeguarded all jobs and all bookings at Ruthin Castle are now guaranteed.

In 2012, the venue underwent a £2 million refurbishment of its 60 en-suite bedrooms, restaurant and bar and added the luxurious Moat Spa with 5 state-of-the-art treatment rooms, outdoor sauna, a thermal suite and fitness facilities, which saw the property achieve its 4-star listing.

The hotel also has superb conference and team building facilities and hosts Medieval Feasts in its Banqueting Hall.  Dining options include Bertie’s Restaurant and the Library Bar.  Ruthin Castle is one of the premier wedding venues in North Wales catering for up to 140 guests and can be hired for exclusive use.
