Gravetye Manor Hotel & Restaurant provides the ultimate British manor escape

Set within a 1000 acre estate in the heart of the West Sussex countryside, Gravetye Manor Hotel & Restaurant is a quintessential British country house hotel with globally-recognised historical gardens. Home to 17 recently restored rooms and an intimate restaurant – now under the helm of ambitious new Head Chef George Blogg -  it provides the ultimate luxury retreat for weekend breaks for two, small groups seeking ‘an escape to the country’ and celebratory stays.

Created by the innovative “Father of the English Flower Garden”, William Robinson, Gravetye’s vast estate – incorporating 35 acres of formal gardens – is one of its greatest allures. A thoughtfully-constructed melange of floral banks, wild flower meadows, orchards, manicured lawns and a kitchen garden, entices guests and horticultural students from around the world. As well as an exploratory ramble across the estate, dotted around the gardens are cosy nooks for couples to settle down with one of Gravetye’s indulgent afternoon teas, whilst visiting groups can split into teams for an invigorating game of croquet upon the dedicated lawn. A font of knowledge on all green-thumbed matters, Head Gardener Tom Coward regularly provides informative tours of the manor’s surrounds, whilst award-winning Head Florist Sue Flight hosts seasonal flower workshops – a novel alternative to the usual incentives and corporate get-togethers.

Gravetye’s gourmet offering continues to go from strength-to-strength with the introduction of Head Chef George Blogg who brings his passion for using home-grown ingredients to create exciting new menus. Utilising as many resources from the Gravetye estate as possible, George’s à la carte menu will feature unpretentious seasonal dishes, whilst a second all-day dining menu will centre on four main principles – 1) Kitchen Garden 2) Foraged from the Land 3) Smokehouse 4) Local Suppliers - and can be served throughout the gardens. Gravetye’s experienced team - reputed for their intuitive professional service - will ensure bespoke arrangements can easily be met for any occasion.

For something particularly special; during the summer months Gravetye offers private dining experiences in their tented Pavilions on the long lawn for up to 48 people or within their stunning oak Gazebo for up to 12 people - ideal for small wedding breakfasts and celebratory events. The Summer House - built by Ernest George, a friend of William Robinson and teacher of the architect Edwin Lutyens - tucked away at the end of the flower garden is the perfect spot for an intimate supper for six overlooking the valley and lake.

Just 12 miles from London Gatwick and with excellent rail links from London, Gravetye Manor is ideally placed to welcome both local guests and international visitors seeking a luxurious British manor escape in an unrivalled setting.
