Sankara Nairobi acquires ISSO 22000 - food safety management accreditation

Sankara Nairobi has received a certified accreditation from ISO 22000 for its excellence in food safety management.
Food safety is making headlines more and more frequently and ensuring food safety is becoming increasingly important in the global market. Being ISSO 22000 certified, Sankara Nairobi can ensure to customers that the correct food management practices are being undertaken providing assurance about quality, safety and reliability as well as insuring there is an internationally consistent standard, enabling Sankara to sell in a global food market..

ISO22000 is a standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization dealing with food safety. ISO22000 specifies requirements for a food safety management system where an organization in the food chain needs to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of human consumption.

The Standard can be applied to any company in the food chain, from field to service. For businesses, the widespread adoption of ISO2200 means that suppliers can base the development of their products and services on specifications that have wide acceptance in their sector. This in turn means businesses using the system are free to compete in many more markets around the world. The ISO 22000 international standard specifies the requirements for a food safety management system that involves the following elements:
• Interactive communication
• System management
• Prerequisite programs
• HACCP principles

Moshi Perera, General Manager Sankara Nairobi noted ‘This is yet another milestone for us. By having the ISO 22000 certification we are able to further guarantee our food safety practices for the comfort of our guests. We were the first hotel to be HACCP certified and will continue to ensure that our practices are world-class’.

ISO 22000 ensures integrity of food supply chain by minimizing food-borne hazards throughout the food chain by ensuring that there are no weak links. Sankara Nairobi is also Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP (DS - 3027: 2002 (E)) Certified. It was the first hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa to achieve the certification in 2011.

HACCP is recognised as one of the most rigorous and comprehensive preventative food safety management systems in the world. This is just one of many accreditations the hotel has taken steps to attain to ensure the safety and comfort of guests is constantly maintained. Earlier this year, the hotel received the Safe Hotels accreditation for its Security practices.
