Alila Manggis celebrates the flavours of Bali

East coast Bali boutique resort to host culinary festival from 9-11 May 2014

The secluded seaside resort, Alila Manggis in East Bali, will host a Culinary Festival from the 9th -11th May, to celebrate the authentic flavours and tastes of Bali’s distinctive culinary traditions. Guests will be able to experience traditional Balinese dishes alongside entertainment, cooking classes and excursions, in this complete gastronomic getaway.

Among the highlights are a Balinese Cuisine Master Class in the resort’s own organic garden, located at the foothills of Mount Agung, overlooking the ocean. It’s here, in this dramatic setting, that guests will rediscover wholesome, nurturing flavours and unprocessed ingredients, awakening a renewed appetite for a healthier, balanced lifestyle. Guests will also observe first-hand the traditional agricultural practices of local farmers, help collect seasonal ingredients and, led by Executive Chef Santika, take an organic cooking lesson in the garden before devouring their creations in a traditional Balinese pavilion.

Seafood lovers can embark on a “Catch & Cook” seafood adventure, departing early in the morning with a crew of fishermen aboard the resort’s traditional jukung fishing boat, putting their fishing skills to the test. After a morning out at sea, breakfast will be served on the white sandy beach of Pasir Putih, followed by a cooking class where they will cook their lunch, a local fish and prawn curry.

A session focused on “Food For Your Skin” will provide fascinating insights into Bali’s rich history of traditional medicinal recipes, and the healing qualities of natural ingredients, used in Alila’s own healthy, natural cuisine and spa treatments, while learning the secrets to staying healthy and youthful by using local herbs, roots and fruits. Guests will learn how to create their own natural facial treatment and herbal body scrub before enjoying a healthy lunch served in the bale.

Throughout the culinary festival entertainment from local artists, live Balinese music and dance performances, an art exhibition, movies under the stars and sunset cocktails will all take place. The start of the festival will also coincide with the opening of a month-long painting exhibition at Alila Manggis, “Living Harmony” by Ubud-born artist Pandi.
