The Athenaeum Hotel teams up with London garden designer for Chelsea Fringe

On Tuesday 20 May, the Athenaeum Hotel, home to the iconic Living Wall which dominates the west and south sides of the 5-star hotel, will host an exclusive evening with renowned garden designer, Daniel Bell, to inspire Londoners to cherish the green spaces in the Capital and to build their own.

The exclusive event will be held in the hotel’s stunning Garden Room, with views on to the living wall that Daniel Bell manages.

On 20th May, join Daniel at the hotel as he talks about his passion for biodiversity in the city and teaches and inspires guests to build their own Living Wall. The event is run in support of the annual Chelsea Fringe, billed as ‘the alternative garden festival’, with 10% of its proceeds donated to support the London festival and encourage green spaces and biodiversity in London.

Commenting on the event, Daniel Bell said: “This event will aim to inspire people to celebrate the green spaces in our lives. Living green has many different messages and for me it is about cultivating green spaces that live and thrive in our cities and daily lives. I hope that this event will inspire people to take some of my experience home with them, and try to build and grow their own living wall, whether they live in a London apartment with no outside space or in a country home.”

Renowned city garden designer, Daniel Bell, built and manages the iconic Living Wall at the Athenaeum hotel on Piccadilly, and is responsible for designing and managing Living Walls across the city and Europe.

Jeremy Hopkins, General Manager, 5-star Athenaeum Hotel, said: “We commissioned our Living Wall in 2009 to echo the fantastic open space of Green Park opposite the hotel; to provide an important haven of biodiversity in the Capital and to bring a fun, striking and intriguing design statement to the hotel for our guests and Londoners to enjoy. We hope that the event on 20th May will entertain and inspire in equal measure.”

The Living Wall at the 5-star Athenaeum Hotel was one of London’s first vertical gardens. One of the most diverse Living Walls in London, the vertical wall features yucca, lavender, jasmine, fuschia, rosemary, junipers, mosses and self-seeded wild flowers.  Conceived by award-winning artist and research scientist Patrick Blanc, the living wall was built by Patric Blanc and Daniel Bell.

Daniel Bell grew up in southern England and was responsible for the first and most diverse vertical gardens in London. Daniel now resides in Sweden and continues to design and build gardens of all sizes throughout London, Stockholm and Skåne. He is a leading figure in vertical gardens.

Tickets are priced at £15 per person with 10% going to support the Chelsea Fringe. Ticket price includes admission to the private talk with Daniel Bell, canapés and an exclusive gin cocktail inspired by the botanicals within the hotel’s Living Wall.
