The entrance of the hotel celebrates the city’s famous blossoming cherry trees with glass box sculptures etched with images of their flowers and branches; the persimmon coloured burlap wall behind the reception area hints at the red stripes of the American flag, while Windsor-style chairs dot the hotel’s interior to further enhance the modern Americana aesthetic.
The most comprehensive presentation of The Phillips Collection’s American art collection undertaken in nearly 40 years, Made in the USA showcases more than 200 masterpieces – from romantic seascapes and jazzy city scenes to abstract canvases and boldly colored portraits – by more than 125 artists whose new visual language made American art an international sensation.
