Five Macdonald hotels in NW England launch new schemeThe Macdonald Hotels Hospitality Academy has been launched by five hotels in Lancashire and Cheshire in the North West of England. They are Macdonald Manchester Hotel & Spa, Macdonald Manchester Townhouse Hotel, Macdonald Tickled Trout in Preston, Macdonald Kilhey Court in Wigan and Macdonald Craxton Wood near Chester.
Marie Pollock, Training and Development Manager for the group, says: ‘There are so many young people not in education, employment or training, whilst the hotel industry offers a superb career for those with a good attitude to hard work. We look for enthusiasm, personality and, most of all, a great work ethic’.
Nine youngsters were short listed and are being put through their paces in real life hotel scenarios in every department from catering to housekeeping and reception.
It is a 12-months course, at the end of which the trainees can select the area of the hotel industry they would like to concentrate on to achieve a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality qualification.
One trainee, Abigail, comments: ‘I could have chosen to go to university but I am ready for the world of work and this way I can learn all the skills I need for my chosen profession while on the job. We have the opportunity to try out food and beverage, front of house and housekeeping, so I’ll have a really good idea of what I am passionate about.’
