Andaz Goes Ape is unveiled at Andaz Liverpool Street this Christmas

Andaz Goes Ape
Andaz Liverpool Street London has announced the launch of Andaz Goes Ape, a festive collaboration with iconic Old Spitalfields Market, Ravensbourne College and local artist, Bobby Patmore. This holiday season Andaz Liverpool Street pays homage to the magic that London’s famous Christmas windows bring to the capital each year…with an East London twist!

Guests and non-guests alike will be charmed by the hotel’s front window which has been lit up by a giant golden ‘Santa’ gorilla. Upon entering the hotel, guests will marvel at the rotating gold ‘Barrel of Monkeys’ which cascade down the Lounge’s (lobby) rotunda with mistletoe in their grasp. Exclusively designed by Bobby Patmore and Ravensbourne College using 3D printing technology, the golden monkeys hang arm in arm to subtly represent this fun and festive partnership.

These playful installations offer a stark contrast to the traditional winter wonderland scenes so often seen on display during the Christmas period and represent an authentic reflection of the spirit of the hotel, the markets and the East London locale.

Bobby Patmore from Inspitalfields, who is the catalyst behind the project on behalf of Old Spitalfields Market, says of the collaboration; “Andaz Goes Ape is a fantastic partnership that really pulls together two of the greatest institutions in the area. Andaz Liverpool Street, for its old-meets-new charm, is the ultimate host for a project by Old Spitalfields Market, which has its own rich heritage and cutting-edge creative feel. It’s been such a pleasure to bring a sense of mischief and fun to a Christmas display and we are delighted to unveil the final installation to the public!”

Carrie Wootten, Head of Commercial Development, Ravensbourne College, shares “Having such a great platform as Andaz Liverpool Street with some of the strongest footfall in the East End was too good to miss. Based in Greenwich, we are East-enders through and through and being invited to create the 3D monkeys was an honour. It’s great to see the local area being supported through projects like this.”

Each evening in the hotel Lounge guests can enjoy special themed treats including mini banana bread loaves, banana chips, monkey nuts and mulled wine. Mini tasters from the hotel restaurant’s Christmas menus such as quince chutney, pistachio purée, mulled wine jelly, turkey, stuffing & cranberry terrine and Butternut squash soup with spiced maple syrup will also be offered.

To further celebrate Christmas, Andaz Liverpool Street hotel has created two new monkey themed cocktails, priced at £10 each. “Monkey Business”, a delicious treat for the ladies is an exciting, fruity blend of Cruzan Rum, Crème de Banane, cranberry juice, apple juice and elderflower cordial. For the men, “Maker’s Monkey” is a tantalising mixture of Maker’s Mark, Drambuie, Banana liqueur and dark chocolate liqueur. Available from the 1st December 2013, both cocktails will be served in all outlets throughout the month.
