Altapura reopens in Val Thorens with a new Ski Bar

Widespread snow in the Alps means only one thing, the new season is underway! While excitement builds across the resorts, Val Thorens has reportedly received over two metres of snow already, so it is time to get in early and hit the slopes in Europe’s highest ski resort.

The Nordic-inspired Altapura – which sits at the lofty altitude of 2,300m – therefore reopened in Val Thorens yesterday, 28 November 2013, and unveils an innovative new bar crafted using old ski equipment.

The Ski Bar at Altapura has been constructed using more than 60 pairs of colourful ski boots and 20 skis, and is set to redefine stylish après-ski living in Val Thorens. Complementing the hotel’s existing contemporary design, the dramatic chandeliers are made from 100 ski polls, and six old chairlifts have been refitted for the lounge area. Located in the heart of the hotel, the bar also includes an expansive south-facing terrace overlooking the Caron Peak – the ideal spot to enjoy an alfresco hot mulled wine and enjoy Altapura’s ‘fondue trees’ after a busy day on the slopes.

The most recent ski launch from the innovative Maisons & Hotels Sibuet collection, Altapura has firmly established itself as the place to stay for the best early and late season snow in the illustrious Les Trois Vallees. Situated just off the piste, Altapura is Val Thorens’ first five star hotel and benefits from stress-free, ski-in ski-out access, making it a popular choice for keen skiers wishing to catch the first lifts and carveinto the day’s fresh powder.

Inspired by Nordic design, with 88 contemporary rooms offering breathtaking views and complete with the latest interactive technology, a Goitschel Skishop with state-of-the-art ski equipment, and a spectacular 1,000m2 Pure Altitude Spa, Altapura blends elegance with touches of the contemporary to bring a fresh identity to the prestigious slopes of ValThorens. The hotel’s three restaurants also offer some of the finest cuisine on the mountain.

Recently voted ‘The World’s Best Ski Resort 2013’ at the World Travel Awards in Austria, Val Thorens will again play host to the primary European stage of the 2013 Ski Cross World Cup, 12-15 December. Altapura will also attract its own fair share of the limelight with the French ski team in residence for the second consecutive year.

For those seeking an extra thrill at high altitude, Altapura can also arrange Adrenaline Journeys including ice driving across the highest track in the French Alps, tobogganing on the longest run in Europe, glacier hiking and airboarding.
