Global star offers words of inspiration and encouragement at Sand China community event

David Beckham spent some time with around 100 Macao youth at The Venetian® Macao Saturday afternoon at a community event organised by Sands China Ltd., sharing his words of inspiration with the youthful participants. One of the world’s most iconic men, Beckham arrived in Macao Friday to announce a business partnership in Asia with Las Vegas Sands Corp., the parent company of Sands China Ltd.

The smiling and enthusiastic Beckham began by sharing his excitement at the opportunity to meet with the young attendees, as he has a passion for supporting young people through sports and community events, and enjoys spending time in Asia, a region he sees as full of optimism and growth. He is also very active in charity work; among his many efforts, he has recently been leveraging the popularity of his Facebook fan page as a platform for encouraging contributions to UNICEF’s relief effort in the Philippines following Super Typhoon Haiyan.

The emcee led a question and answer session, where Beckham gave his thoughts on a variety of topics and questions submitted beforehand by the young guests, including how he first was introduced to football, his greatest influences and heroes, and some of his biggest personal challenges and successes in life. He also relayed some of the experiences he has had while serving as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and shared his positive impression of being in Macao for the first time.

The youthful audience sat in rapt attention, hanging on every word said by the global star, who enjoys unrivalled popularity across the region. Afterwards, they enjoyed photo opportunities together with Beckham to commemorate the visit.

The youth attending were invited from various local community groups: the Macau Special Olympics football team, Macau U16 Football Team, Association of Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers of Macau, Macau Child Development Association, Cradle of Hope Association, and Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau.
