Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle helps the health conscious with new gym and extended shopping service

An award-winning North East hotel is giving health conscious guests a helping hand with an extended grocery service.
The Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle, opposite St James’ Park, originally launched a grocery delivery service for its customers when it opened in 2011, teaming up with retail giants Waitrose to offer guests on extended stays the option to cook in their rooms..

Many of the rooms at the four-star hotel have their own kitchens, while the remainder are all equipped with a fridge and a microwave, giving guests who don’t want to eat out every night the opportunity to have their favourite foods in the privacy of their rooms.

Now, to complement the existing selection of ready meals, snacks, and drinks available, the hotel, voted Large Hotel of the Year at the prestigious North East England Tourism Awards 2013, has extended the choice to include dishes with reduced fat and calorie content.

The new look delivery menu now includes a number of healthy items from the Waitrose Love Life range, offering guests calorie counted and love fat meals along with a selection of “Free From” foods such as soya milk and gluten free pasta and cakes.

And at the same time health conscious guests can also enjoy the hotel’s recently unveiled fitness suite, with a range of gym equipment available to use from early in the morning until late at night.

Guests wanting to take advantage of the shopping service are asked to leave their list at reception by 9am the items will be delivered to their room by 6pm on the same day and the cost will be added to their hotel bill with a copy of the Waitrose receipt.

“As a company, we have been aware for some time that guests can find it hard to access healthy and nutritious meals when staying in an unfamiliar city,” said Sandman Signature Hotel Newcastle’s General Manager Paul Smith, “and it can be all too easy for them to head for the nearest fast food outlet or restaurant.

“Now, our new options make it possible for those on low fat or calorie controlled diets or who just want to make some healthier food choices, to have that flexibility.”
