July strong month for visitation, hotel occupancy, events and retailSands China Ltd. properties were teeming with activity in July, enjoying high hotel occupancy, visitation and event attendance.
“July was a particularly strong month for the company across all sectors,” said Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sands China Ltd. “Increased visitation at Cotai Strip Resorts Macao was driven by entertainment events, exhibitions, affordable hotel packages, and retail offerings.
"Our July achievements reinforce our commitment to the Macao Government strategy of building the city into a world centre of tourism and leisure by diversifying its tourism industry. The comprehensive non-gaming offerings of Sands China’s integrated resort concept have demonstrated very high customer acceptance, creating synergistic revenue enhancement and fulfilling our commitment to overall market diversification and to the future of Macao.”
July saw a record 5.6 million visitors to Sands China properties – Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and Sands® Cotai Central – marking a 34 per cent increase over the same period last year. A number of promotions and events were launched in July, accounting for the significant increase in visitation. Fists of Gold II was instrumental in driving visitation figures across The Venetian Macao, The Plaza Macao and Sands Cotai Central to over 200,000 on July 27, 2013 as compared to 133,000 on the same Saturday one year prior, marking a striking 55 per cent increase.
With Sands China properties featuring Macao’s largest portfolio of hotel rooms at the broadest pricing available, July occupancies reached record levels, exceeding 7,500 rooms sold per day. Along with well-timed summer hotel promotions, several July events were instrumental in pushing occupancy rates to a record high: the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards Weekend, the Harlem Globetrotters exhibition basketball game, Fists of Gold II, and the launches of the DreamWorks Experience at Cotai Strip Resorts and Dinosaurs Live at The Venetian.
Five July exhibitions collectively brought in nearly 120,000 visitors in total: the 6th Computer and Digital Products Expo; the 7th Home and Household Products Expo; the Japan Foods and Products Fair; the Macao Franchise Expo; and the China Jade Culture Festival.
Sands China’s selection of 600 shops attracted over 4 million visitors in July at Shoppes at Venetian, Shoppes at Cotai Central, and Shoppes at Four Seasons, a robust 67 per cent year-on-year increase over July 2012.
With July’s successes and a prosperous first half of the year behind it, Sands China still has several highly-anticipated entertainment events on the way to Cotai Strip Resorts Macao in the remaining months of 2013, including Rihanna Diamonds World Tour Sept. 13-14, JUSTIN BIEBER BELIEVE TOUR Oct. 12, and PACQUIAO VS. RIOS: The Clash in Cotai Nov. 24.
