Some of the best truffles of France can be found in Provence, nearby Crillon le Brave, an area which is known for its high quality produce and agricultural production. November marks the start of the Provençal truffle-hunting season, and Crillon le Brave is offering three English speaking wine and truffle hunting weekends.
Eric Jaumard, Provence’s truffle expert, has teamed up with Crillon le Brave and will be leading the three extraordinary truffle hunting experiences on Friday morning with his trusted dog. Guests will go hunting for truffles with Eric in a nearby village followed by a rustic lunch. Following an exhilarating morning foraging for truffles with the expert truffier, guests will have an afternoon at their leisure to do as much or as little as they like before a delicious dinner at Crillon le Brave.
During the Saturday morning of the truffle hunting and wine weekend, guests will learn how to cook and prepare truffles during a cooking demonstration with Crillon le Brave’s Head Chef, Jérôme Blanchet. Jérôme will be teaching guests his secrets behind creating his signature truffle dishes such as: Duck foie gras pot au feu (beef broth) with black truffle potato gnocchi. Following Jérôme’s cooking demonstration guests will have the opportunity to spend the afternoon visiting Châteauneuf-du-Papes’s finest winery estates, where they will taste a selection of local red and white wines. To round off the evening, guests will be treated to a truffle infused dinner at Crillon le Brave.
On Sunday morning, guests will visit the famous antiques shops and Sunday morning farmer’s market and stands in the scenic l'Isle sur la Sorgue. Regarded as the antique capital of the region, the “Venice of Provence,” l'Isle sur la Sorgue is named after the clear water canals that run through the pretty town.
Crillon le Brave’s English-speaking truffle-hunting and wine weekends are for groups of up to 16 people and will be running from:
- Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th November
- Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th November
- Thursday 28th to Sunday 1st December 2013.
The three-day programme includes four fantastic events: truffle hunting with one of Provence’s great truffiers, a wine visit and tasting at one of Châteauneuf-duPape’s finest estates, a truffle cooking demonstration with Jérôme Blanchet, and a visit to Provence’s antique capital l'Isle sur la Sorgue.
Crillon le Brave’s truffle-hunting and wine weekends are available for 1,185 euros/ £1,024 for two people sharing a standard or 1,425 euros/ £1,231 for a deluxe.
The package does not include: lunches (except for lunch with Eric Jaumard following the truffle hunting), wine and additional beverages, transport to and from Crillon le Brave, mini bar or other personal items. Crillon le Brave recommends that guests hire their own car during their stay.
