Festive feasts and frolics at Warwick Castle this Christmas

Warwick Castle has got Christmas 2016 all wrapped up for all the family - and friends - with brand new festive fun, delicious mediaeval banquets, stylish parties, new cosy winter wonderland accommodation, and a crackerload of fun throughout November and December.

Deck the halls! The celebrations commence with the arrival of the 25-foot-high Christmas tree on 14 November.  Hand decorated from tip to trunk, the tree will grace the iconic Great Hall until 3 January 2017, setting the celebratory tone of the season and providing a photogenic focal point.

Santa’s here! Younger visitors can enjoy plenty of together time with Father Christmas with the ALL-NEW Santa’s Stately Breakfast, a magical feast for families inspiring lifelong memories.

For the first time in the Castle’s 1,100-years guests can feast at Mr. and Mrs. Claus’ very own private dining table set in the Castle’s fairytale State Dining Room. Experience the festive magic of Warwick Castle an hour before other guests as Santa’s elves lead the way through the majestic Central Courtyard towards The Great Hall, where Mrs. Claus greets each guest in person. Once inside, tuck in to delicious pastries and feel the joy as that ever-so special guest – Santa Claus himself – arrives as a full English breakfast is served. After breakfast, children can enjoy games and festivities with Mrs. Claus and the elves while Santa presents a personalised gift to each child.

Places for these exclusive breakfasts are limited and cost £55 per person including Castle entry, tickets go on sale on 7 September.

A little later, also in The State Dining Room, young visitors can settle in for Stories with Santa (replete from his own hearty breakfast), included in the price of entry.

Celebrate the joys of Christmastime with a magical sleepover in the winter wonderland of Knight’s Village, welcoming guests for its first festive season (closed 24 and 25 December). Exclusive events for guests include NEW Santa Sleepover (2,3,9,10,17-23 December) complete with an Elf wakeup call. Guests enjoy exclusive storytime with Santa after breakfast and can add an evening meal with Mr and Mrs Claus to their stay. Spend the night in Woodland Lodge by the River Avon from £40pppn based on four guests sharing, including breakfast and two days Castle entry with car parking.

It may be colder outside, but that won’t stop the beautiful birds of prey from soaring high above the Castle in the twice-daily winter Flight of the Eagles show, and there’s always plenty of fun to be had in the Horrible Histories Maze where Rattus Rattus has caused mayhem by muddling up history. The task is to put things back in the right order – and escape the maze!

Festive feasts don’t come much grander than at Warwick Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade I listed building resplendent in 64 acres of riverside grounds. Savour a three-course Knight’s Lunch with all the trimmings at The Coach House or – for groups of colleagues seeking Christmas cheer - book a Christmas Crusade team building activity such as Knight’s School with a light lunch included. Both priced at £42 per person and available mid-week and weekends, excluding school holidays, for private groups.

In terms of evening entertainment, the Castle caters for exclusive private groups and shared party options on a range of weekend and mid-week dates.

Starting from £59 per person, The Great Hall Dinner and Disco enables guests to dance the night away in elegant surrounds, where Royalty and Heads of State have been hosted over the years (shared party dates available on 25 November and 8, 21, 22 December). From £78 per person, guests can enjoy the all-action Great Hall Tournament Banquet, a three-course meal with a live mediaeval battle. (Shared party dates available on 26 November and 2, 10,16 December). Both options available to private groups, mid-week, Monday to Thursday.

The Kingmaker’s Mediaeval Banquet (shared party dates 3,9,10 and 17 December) offers a regal setting for an evening of adventure: imagine stepping back to 1471 as the Castle prepares for battle! For the brave, some of Warwick Castle’s most revolting residents put on quite a show for the eerie Dungeons After Dark (shared party dates 2 and 16 December) three-course supper that includes a terrifying tour of The Castle Dungeon followed by live entertainment and music. Both experiences cost £68 per person with mid-week, Monday to Thursday, available to private groups.

Welcome 2017 with The New Year’s Eve Great Hall Ball, a captivating evening of enthralling entertainment from some of Warwick Castle’s best-loved characters, with fine food served in the distinguished surroundings of The Great Hall. An after-dinner disco brings in the New Year in style and this shared event costs from £130 per person.
