Small hotel is finalist in West Country’s biggest tourism awards

Glazebrook House in Devon is in the running for another top award, which may mean finding more space in an already crammed trophy cabinet at the quirky eight-bedroom hotel in South Brent.
The Glazebrook, which only opened in May 2014, is one of the finalists in the Small Hotel/Boutique Accommodation of the Year category in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in a year which has seen a record number of 602 entries across the region.

With over 130 finalists, it will be the biggest tourism awards event ever in the region. The prize ceremony will be held on February 2, 2017 in the brand new Lansdown Suite at Ashton Gate stadium, the largest conference and events venue in the South West.

Pieter Hamman, who owns the hotel with its magical “Alice in Wonderland” themed interior with his wife Fran, is thrilled at the continued recognition for the hotel where the kitchens are run by Michelin star chef Anton Piotrowski. “It’s only been two years in the making, so we’re very pleased about that. We’re just delighted at the recognition of what we’re doing.”

Awards are coming thick and fast at the Glazebrook with four trophies in just eight weeks. Earlier this month [November 10 2016] they collected the Gold award in the Small Hotel/Boutique Accommodation category at the Devon Tourism Awards held in The Great Hall at Exeter University. It was an impressive result for the Hamman’s, who have never run a hotel before, as they shared it with the luxury four-star Kentisbury Grange and historic Lewtrenchard Manor.

It was the second awards ceremony in a week, following the prestigious Condé Nast Johansens travel awards in London where they received the prize for best wine list in the Small and Beautiful category.

In October the Glazebrook was named Best Hotel Restaurant in the Food and Drink Devon ‘Love the Flavour’ awards and collected silver in the Hotel of the Year category at the English Riviera and South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards.

The Glazebrook is in the 2017 Good Food Guide and The Sunday Times has included it in a list of 100 Ultimate British Hotels for two years running.
