IACC names UK Chefs as "Copper Skillet Champions"

Copper Skillet champions
20 chefs from IACC member properties across the UK gathered at ETC Venues Marble Arch recently, to compete for the coveted UK Copper Skillet where the winners edged one step closer to the International Copper Skillet global final taking place in New York in April next year.
Mateusz Wielek from etc.venues was declared Senior Champion. A trio of nationally-renowned judges named Mateusz the winner for his dish of thyme and rosemary fillets of corn-fed chicken on a chorizo, cavolo nero and parmesan risotto.

Scott Cawse, from Barnett Hill was declared Junior Champion for his dish of pan fried halibut with crispy chorizo, buttered spinach, brown shrimp and caper dressing, and sweet potato crisps.

The competing chefs were presented with basic pantry items along with a "mystery basket" of proteins and other fresh, dairy and grocery items. They were given 30 minutes to prepare, create, and present their creations to the judges.

For the 2nd time in the 12-year history of the Copper Skillet competition, there was a Junior Chef category where IACC conference centre chefs under the age of 26 competed in the cook-off. Junior and senior category winners now go on to compete in the IACC-Europe final to be held in Milan in October.

The winners of the European cook-off (one senior chef and one junior chef) will go on to compete with other chefs from IACC chapters around the world at the International Copper Skillet Competition at the IACC-Americas Connect Annual Meeting Central New York in April 2016 where the 12th Global Copper Skillet Champion will be named.

The popular Copper Skillet competition was introduced in 2004 to highlight the artistry and skill of the best chefs from IACC-member conference centres around the world and to honour their contributions to the shared goal of providing an outstanding conference centre experience.
