Andaz Liverpool Street shortlisted for ‘The Heart Of The City’ Dragon Award

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton commented, “The Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards are designed to ‘shine a light’ on exemplary engagement between businesses and their communities. The Dragon Awards recognize and reward projects which are making a real difference to our communities, and building a strong, successful and sustainable city.”
Andaz Liverpool Street gives back to the community, providing a catering trainee programme which supports the Providence Row homeless charity by leading workshops with homeless trainees in the Providence Row kitchen, led by Andaz staff. Since the programme started in April 2011, 32 trainees have benefited from the programme, eight of whom have progressed into paid employment and six who are now in further training.
Arnaud de Saint-Exupéry, General Manager of Andaz Liverpool Street, commented, “It has been an extremely moving experience working with Providence Row. Each member of our team has both on a professional and personal level been touched by this experience and we hope to continue our relationship with Providence Row in the future. This is a fantastic and well-deserved achievement for the hotel’s catering trainee programme.”
Majdop Sadiq is a shining example of success resulting from the Andaz Liverpool Street catering trainee programme. Majdop came to Providence Row in early 2010 ill with tuberculosis after fleeing torture and persecution in Darfur, Oman. Majdop volunteered at Providence Row following completing a placement at the Andaz Liverpool Street and was in attendance with the chairman of Providence Row at the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Awards last night.
Majdop commented, “I love cooking and on my placement at Andaz Hotel I was working in a professional kitchen. It was a great opportunity - I learned so much from the professional chefs about cooking and preparing food.”
Andaz Liverpool Street is thrilled with this fabulous achievement for the hotel’s catering trainee programme, which is so very well deserved. From 1st November – 31st December, Andaz Liverpool Street will be taking part in Street Mart, and will be collecting £1 on each check in both of the hotel’s restaurants, Eastway and Catch. All proceeds will go to Providence Row.
