Copper Box Arena shortlisted for London Venue award

The Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has joined London’s leading events venues in the finals of the highly-contested London Venue Awards.
Operated by GLL, the UK’s largest public leisure provider and leading social enterprise, on behalf of the London Legacy Development Corporation, the Copper Box Arena has been nominated for the Best Sporting Venue for Events category at the event industry awards..

The London Venue Awards was launched to recognise and reward excellence in all types of London venues. Last year, the awards attracted more than 350 venue professionals who came together to applaud their industry and individual venue’s success.

The Copper Box Arena faces strong competition at the awards ceremony, taking place on the 14th October 2016, from five other top sporting venues including the Emirates Stadium, Lord’s Cricket Ground and Twickenham Stadium.

As part of the judging process, each venue’s achievements will be considered by a rigorous judging panel, comprised of highly respected professionals. The good news follows London’s third largest arena winning the accolade for New Event Space at the 2015 Event Awards and being shortlisted at the 2015 London Venue Awards.

Russ Barnes, Copper Box Arena Partnership Manager, said:   “What a great achievement for the Copper Box Arena and the team to be shortlisted for these coveted event-industry awards.

“The ‘Box that Rocks’ is like no other venue in London. We’re continuing to deliver the promised Olympic and Paralympic legacy; mixing high-end corporate events with international sporting tournaments and a full community programme.

“Since opening our doors to the public in 2013, the venue has gone from strength-to-strength and being recognised in the industry would be a fantastic achievement.”

During 2014, the Copper Box Arena recorded more than 425,000 visits to the venue, successfully delivered 144 events, of which 55 were community and non-sporting, 65 sporting and 24 British Basketball League games. Since the Copper Box Arena opened, it has had 950,000 visitors. Recent events hosted at the venue have included BBC One’s Sport Relief 2016’s live TV broadcast, the launch of the new Sony PS4 Gran Turismo 7/GT Sport game and five sell-out England Netball International games.
