A group manager at contract caterer Fare of London has achieved one of the highest accolades, described as its ‘flagship qualification’, from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET). John Cawood, Group Administration Manager at Fare of London, was recently awarded the WSET Level 4 diploma in Wines and Spirits, achieving merit after two academic years of study to become one of a small number of people to achieve this in the country.

The achievement follows previous success for John Cawood, who secured one of the highest scores in an earlier unit of the diploma and was awarded a coveted WSET scholarship.  The scholarship afforded John the opportunity to tour vineyards in Portugal to further his specialist knowledge first-hand with winemakers.

John Durden, Managing Director of Fare of London, comments: “This is an outstanding achievement and demonstrates John’s commitment and passion for understanding wines and spirits. John has dedicated considerable personal time to this pursuit and has added tremendous value to the team at Fare of London and of course to our clients with his exceptional knowledge. We are proud to support John and to celebrate his success.”

John Cawood, Group Administration Manager at Fare of London, adds: “I am thrilled to have achieved this qualification from such a prestigious organisation. Although I have an administrative role in the company, I have been given the opportunity to develop my knowledge in food and beverages. Fare of London really goes the extra mile to ensure their staff have a great knowledge and understanding of the industry which of course equips the team to offer the highest quality service to client venues and their guests.”

The award was presented at a ceremony in the Guildhall by a representative of Wines of Portugal and Gerard Basset OBE, honorary President of the WSET, Master of Wine and Master Sommelier.
