Held on Monday 11th May at the Sage Centre in Gateshead, the Awards named Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust as Large Visitor Attraction of the Year, and presented The Old Rectory of St James guest house in Stirchley village, Telford Bronze in the Bed and Breakfast/Guest House category.

Sarah Bird of Meet Telford & Shropshire said: “We are absolutely delighted to see Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust and The Old Rectory of St James recognised in these prestigious national industry awards.  Telford is a real destination of choice for the domestic and international leisure and business tourism market. Its unique combination of world class heritage and vibrant urban culture make it a really special place. From the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge and convention centre at The International Centre Telford, to our fabulous collection of accommodation, award winning visitor attractions and breathtaking outdoor facilities, Telford delivers an exceptional visitor experience.”

Delighted with the award, Anna Brennand, Chief Executive of Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust commented: “It was a great achievement to once again reach the finals of these prestigious awards, as this positions us amongst the best tourist attractions in the country. Trustees, volunteers and staff are all delighted that we have received the Gold award, which is a wonderful testament to all their hard work over the years.”

Rosemary and Adrian Brown of The Old Rectory of St James added: "We are delighted and very proud to have received the Bronze Award. We feel our hard work over the last four years has paid off, but it would not have been possible without our guests taking time to write such wonderful reviews, our local suppliers providing the best of Shropshire, and all the local businesses who contribute to the tourism industry in one way or another. This puts us, Telford and Shropshire as a ‘must visit’ location.”

The 2015 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence celebrate the best of English tourism. They promote healthy industry competition and high standards, helping to ensure England's place as a world-class destination.
