The TUCO awards attracted catering teams from universities across the UK, with Keele entering five categories in all, winning prizes in three.
For the second year in a row James Tudor, assistant chef at Keele Hall, took the much sought after headline prize of Chef of the Year, while Jo Swan, Keele University Café Barista, won silver in the Barista Skills Challenge for her espressos, cappuccinos and signature drink, 'Night at the Campfire.' Julie Kirk, Keele University Deputy Front of House Manager, was Keele’s third winner of the evening, with a bronze in the Food Service Skills competition for her Staffordshire teapot theme.
Marcus Wilson, head of marketing at Keele University, says: “This is fantastic recognition of the culinary expertise we have to offer at Keele, and especially in the award-winning Terrace restaurant at our grade II listed Keele Hall. The TUCO awards are a great stage for the Keele team to show off their talents and all three of our winners from Keele showed such great creativity in their entries.
“It’s down to their talent that our conferences and events team is able to plan and hold special events such as our Mother’s Day lunch and afternoon tea as well as successfully providing a variety of catering options for weddings, banquets and conferences at Keele Hall.”
The expertise at Keele was particularly well represented, with chefs Luke Staton and James Jefferies also competing in the Chefs’ Challenge category.
This latest victory follows a very successful 2014 for Keele University Conferences & Events including two gold, a bronze and a Chef of the Year award at the 2014 TUCO awards and a Silver Award for Business Tourism at the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2014. It also follows the announcement that Keele University will be one of the hosts of the 2015 UK Corporate Games in June 2015.
