BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green in Kendal scoops Hotel Restaurant of the Year Award

The two AA Rosette awarded Greenhouse Restaurant at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Castle Green Hotel in Kendal has beaten-off competition from the likes of Lucknam Park and Plas Dinas Country House to win the Hotel Restaurant of the Year Award at the inaugural Food Awards England and Wales, held recently at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

Accolades were given following months of public nominations across 26 specialist categories from best Street Food, to Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year. Regional winners in the Hotel Restaurant of the Year category were: North Winner: The Greenhouse Restaurant (Castle Green Hotel, Kendal); Midlands Winner: Hogarths Brassiere (Hogarths Hotel & Restaurant, Solihull); South Winner: The Park Restaurant (Lucknam Park Hotel, Wiltshire) and Wales Winner: Plas Dinas Country House (Gwynedd). The Greenhouse Restaurant (Castle Green Hotel, Kendal) was voted overall winner in this category to scoop the Hotel Restaurant of the Year Award.

Hotel General Manager Ben Mayou commented: ‘I am delighted with the award. Our executive head chef, Justin Woods, has worked tirelessly to build a restaurant on the foundations of great ingredients, locally sourced produce and exceptional attention to detail. Clearly this is a winning combination with our diners and we thank everyone who voted for us.’

The Food Awards England and Wales recognise and reward some of England and Wales top servers, specialists and suppliers and in turn celebrates the amazing breadth of the love for good food in the country.
