Ritesh Kumar, InterContinental Fiji’s Chef de Cuisine at signature restaurant Navo, was named runner up and awarded a total of two gold medals and one bronze in the Chef of The Year Class. With 290 chefs from around the nation contending, competition was fierce. Eight chefs, selected after intense internal trials, represented InterContinental Fiji in this year’s competition, collectively claiming 2 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
“I'm excited that my team did so well this year as most of them are newcomers to the annual event,” said Chef Ritesh. “The preparation leading up to the competition was incredible. We created unique concepts, tested and refined them further in the four weeks leading up to the event. Culinary perfection in the pursuit of offering amazing dining experiences is a key part of the InterContinental philosophy and this was one of our driving forces for this competition.”
“I love creating new dishes. For me, it’s all about discovering the essence of Fiji through the colour, flavour and texture of locally sourced ingredients. There’s nothing like seeing guests’ faces light up when they fall in love with that first bite; their first experience of a new dish.”
InterContinental Fiji’s fine dining restaurant; Navo, has also rolled out an exciting new menu. “Navo’s new fine dining menu has been well received by our guests,” says Chef Ritesh. “The new menu, inspired by health and fresh local ingredients, is sensational and I invite anyone with a discerning culinary palate to taste it. It’s an incredible balance between Fiji’s core identity and international standards.”
Akira Tanaka, InterContinental Fiji’s Director of Dining & Entertainment says, “We are very proud of Ritesh and the whole InterContinental Fiji team who strive to deliver authentic and unique five-star Fijian holiday experiences to our guests. These achievements are not only a credit to the resort, but to all who help make Natadola Bay Fiji’s premier destination for world-class dining and luxurious beachfront accommodation.”
