Donington Park wins prestigious property award

Donington Park, the international motorsport venue which is home to the 2015 round of MotoGP and a host of other international events including the British Touring Car Championship and World Superbikes, has won a prestigious property award for the design and build of its multi-million pound Formula E plaza.

Situated in the Western Paddock area of the famous Leicestershire circuit, the international headquarters of the brand new electric race championship, FIA Formula E, now boasts the title of Midlands Region Construction Project of the Year.

In winning the award, Donington Park fought off stiff competition from a project between Northampton College and Silverstone, making the final a battle between the two midlands race tracks. Donington’s Formula E building was constructed in just 16 weeks, with global television cameras on hand to film the launch of the dramatic race series earlier in the year.

Working closely with contractors Vinci and Pick Everard to create the eco-friendly HQ, Donington Park delivered a brand new set of buildings to create the perfect new home for FIA Formula E, faster than planned and within budget.

Kevin Wheatcroft, Chairman of Donington Park, said: “We have had an excellent year here at Donington Park, but it’s not just our action on the track which is turning heads in the industry. The development of the FIA Formula E headquarters was a remarkable project, especially given the exceptionally tight turnaround. We’re very proud to be the home to this innovative race series and equally happy to have had this work recognised as Construction Product of the Year.”

Next up, Donington Park’s new buildings are in the final selection at the International Property Awards at MIPIM – the global property exhibition held at London Olympia on October 15-17.
