Still time to enter the 2015 Hudson's Heritage Awards

There is still time to enter the prestigious 2015 Hudson’s Heritage Awards which celebrate the best heritage experiences. Historic houses, heritage gardens, museums, galleries in historic buildings, archaeological or industrial sites and other places associated with the past in the UK open to the public are invited to put forward an entry before 31 August.  Any heritage site can nominate itself in any of the 10 categories.

Judging will take place in September and October and places on the short list will be notified in November and December. The awards, which were established in 2011, are an independently judged annual national awards scheme open to historic houses, gardens, museums and heritage sites.

The 2015 awards will be presented by Dan Snow, historian and TV presenter in March at a lunch reception at Goldsmith’s Hall in London. Around 100 guests will attend including owners and managers of the winning entries, representatives of the heritage tourist industry and the media.

The categories reward a range of visitor experiences and recognise the best heritage attractions in the UK. Categories include Best Family Day Out; Best Wedding Venue; Best Eating Out; Best Accommodation, Best New Discovery; Hidden Gem; Best Innovation; Best Shopping and Best Loos which are each nominated by heritage attractions.  A special category to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of war in 1914 is the Best First World War Event.   Best Heritage Picnic Spot is nominated by the public.

Sarah Greenwood, publisher of market leading guide, Hudson’s Historic Houses & Gardens said “Hudson’s Heritage Awards are a great way for Britain’s heritage attractions to take a bit of credit for the efforts they make to host visitors.  Hudson’s is proud to be involved with a scheme which recognises all the elements that make a visit to a stately home, garden or other historic place enjoyable.  Our judges look at everything about the experience from the cup of coffee and the loo to clever ideas for innovation.  We reveal our winners next year and are delighted that Dan Snow is going to join us”.
