NEC wow with industry double at AEO Awards

Team NEC celebrated two outstanding wins – Venue Team of the Year and the Excellence Award – at the 2014 AEO Excellence Awards at London’s Grosvenor House on Friday 4 July.
It was the second time in three years that Team NEC had been successful in the Venue Team category and tough opposition included Premiership giants in the form of Arsenal and Chelsea’s Meetings and Events Teams, in addition to regular industry rivals the Business Design Centre, Harrogate International Centre and ExCeL London.

“Team NEC brings together many different people, departments and organisations and this award is recognition of the hard work put in by everyone, in every part of the team,” said Gary Masters, Security and Traffic Operations Manager at the NEC and also Team NEC Project Leader.

“The organisers mentioned the innovation we’ve shown in developing Team NEC, but more than anything it’s the way that everyone has pulled together with a shared goal of delivering great customer service and exceptional operational delivery. There’s a great spirit within Team NEC and that’s been captured here.”

The presentation of the Excellence Award was selected based on the highest scoring individual entry across all of the Award submissions and was a fitting conclusion to proceedings. “It has been a real privilege to pick up these awards today,” said Kathryn James, the NEC’s Managing Director.

“We first won the Venue Team award in 2012 and since then, we’ve been determined to win it back. This acknowledgement is testament to the efforts of our Team NEC members working with organisers, exhibitors, contractors and visitors – and how they do it as one great team.” The double AEO success, enjoyed at a glittering ceremony hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr, followed on from a “highly commended” recommendation at the 2014 National Recycling Awards in London the previous evening.
