The Grill Room restaurant awarded AA Rosette

Robert Haynes, Head Chef, Down Hall Country House Hotel
The Grill Room restaurant, located at the four star rated Down Hall Country House Hotel near Bishop’s Stortford, has been awarded an AA Rosette. The Grill Room provides a relaxed setting for dining decorated with Italian wood flooring, dark wood tables and red leather seating adding a pop of colour. The restaurant boasts large windows allowing for an abundance of natural daylight. Head Chef Robert Haynes creates seasonal menus with contemporary British and French influence using the finest ingredients sourced from the local area.

Robert Haynes, Head Chef, Down Hall Country House Hotel said: “I am honoured to receive an AA Rosette. It is a great accomplishment for me and the catering team. We some have fabulous producers locally so creating menus is a treat. I’m looking forward to building on our current success to achieve our next Rosette.”

Robert has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years working in many restaurants with Michelin and AA accolades.  He has also worked as a private chef and food consultant; most notably for motor racing legend Sir Frank Williams. Since taking the helm as Head Chef, Robert has worked tirelessly to add his culinary flair; introducing new menus in all parts of the hotel including conference and wedding menus as well as the Grill Room menu.

Andrew Oxley, General Manager, Down Hall Country House Hotel said:  “We are thrilled to be awarded and recognised with an AA Rosette.  Robert and the team have worked incredibly hard proving their continued commitment to creating outstanding cuisine. At Down Hall we pride ourselves on using the finest local produce and providing an excellent customer experience.”

Patrons dining at the Grill Room can enjoy dishes (subject to seasonal produce) including scallops on pork belly served with celeriac puree and spiced apple to start, followed by shoulder of lamb with buttered Savoy cabbage and peas, carrot and parsnip puree and gratin potato and finish with dark chocolate ganache served with green tea panacotta and berry sorbet.

The AA Rosette confirms that the Grill Room restaurant has achieved standards that stand out in the local area serving food that is prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good quality ingredients.
