Ricoh Arena marketing director wins international award

The marketing director at the Ricoh Arena has been presented with an international award at a prestigious ceremony.
Liz Cooper won The Networker Award at a gala dinner at TheStadiumBusiness Awards 2014 which recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities across the world.

Liz was appointed key accounts manager at the Ricoh Arena in 2004 – in fact before the first brick was even laid – before she was promoted to marketing director the following year.

Her involvement from the very beginning means she has extensive knowledge of the Ricoh Arena as a business, entertainment and sporting venue.

Liz has developed excellent relationships with the UK’s leading promoters to secure 24 major concerts such as Take That, Oasis and Coldplay which have brought over 514,000 fans to the Ricoh Arena.

She has had an integral role in securing high-profile sporting events including the 2012 Olympics which attracted 200,000 visitors, the Davis Cup tennis and the Champion of Champions snooker tournament.

Liz’s marketing expertise was acknowledged by her peers when the Ricoh Arena scooped bronze at the Meetings Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA) 2013.

She is a member of the Coventry NSPCC Business Board which raises money for projects in Coventry and Warwickshire and she is part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Place Board – a new marketing and identity proposition for the area.

A Coventry and Warwickshire Champion for over five years, Liz is part of a group of leading decision-makers who promote the area.

Liz was given the judges award at TheStadiumBusiness Awards for her passion and commitment to the Ricoh Arena as well as her determination to enhance Coventry's profile.

“I was genuinely shocked and overwhelmed when they read out my name, it is very humbling to be recognised by people in your industry,” she said.

“I have always been very proud to be part of the Ricoh Arena and exceptionally lucky to work with a great team of people in such an amazing place.

“As well as praising our facilities at every networking opportunity, I am always stressing the strengths of the business and leisure facilities we have in Coventry and Warwickshire.”

Liz was among 18 award winners on the night at the RAF Museum in Hendon, London, which was the venue for the fifth year of TheStadiumBusiness Awards.

Ian Nuttall, founder of TheStadium Business Awards, said: “Congratulations to all of our 2014 finalists and especially to everyone who reached the podium.

“Our winners have showcased the very best of the global stadium sector – from great customer service and creative sponsorship through to crowd safety and visionary thinking.”
