François Delahaye awarded EHMA Manager of the Year 2013

François Delahaye, General Manager Plaza Athénée Paris and Chief Operating Officer Dorchester Collection
The manager of the year is François Delahaye, General Manager Plaza Athénée Paris and Chief Operating Officer Dorchester Collection. The prestigious European Manager of the Year Award was presented by the EHMA President Hans Koch in recognition of his brilliant career in the luxury hotel business. The ceremony was held at the magnificent Salle Empire of the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco on March 29th, on the occasion of the 41st EHMA General Meeting gala dinner.

On receiving the award François Delahaye said he was impressed by the recognition from an association that represents managers of the highest quality hotels in Europe. Beyond his personal qualities, Delahaye is recognized for his sensitivity to the staff and his commitment to clients. Throughout his remarkable career, loyalty, respect and trust are the significant core values. He has won international prizes as celebrated hotelier but the appreciation shown by the employees who have become successful managers under his tuition means a lot more to him. “I am touched when they return after a while to thank me for the good schooling I gave them. Respect is what it is all about in our profession”.

For more than twenty years François Delahaye has had a very successful career in the luxury hotel business and in December 1999 this led to his appointment as General Manager of the Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris. He had begun work in 1973 as footman to the Duke of Westminster. Upon his appointment, he managed a post renovation stage, calling on the celebrated chef Alain Ducasse, who transferred his restaurant to the Plaza Athénée in September 2000. Now, at the age of 58, François Delahaye manages a staff of more than 500 and he still implements the basic principle that has been his watchword since his earliest days: “A happy staff makes happy clients”.

As Chief Operating Officer for the Dorchester Collection since 2006, he is responsible for ten luxury hotels: the Plaza Athénée and Meurice in Paris; the Dorchester in London; the Beverly Hills Hotel and Bel–Air Hotel in Los Angeles; the Principe di Savoia in Milan; the Coworth Park in Ascot; the 45 Park Lane in London; the Richemond in Geneva and the Eden in Rome.

In 2013 François Delahaye was named Hotelier of the Year by the leading American luxury network of travel agencies “Virtuoso”.
