The five-star property, which is directly linked to the Bangkok Convention Centre Hall and the Central Plaza shopping and lifestyle complex, has recently been totally renovated.
“Green and sustainable tourism is one of the defining policies of Centara Hotels & Resorts, and applies across our entire portfolio of properties,” says Andre Brulhart, the hotel’s general manager.
“The entire management team and staff at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao are proud and delighted that we have achieved EarthCheck Silver Certification, and it reflects the dedication and enthusiasm of everyone.
“We are now working towards our Gold Certification.”
EarthCheck operates an Environmental Management System, a series of practical tools for the benchmarking and certification of operations practices.
The environmental performance of each property is monitored against policy, benchmarking the indicators against baseline and best practices. The environmental and social impact is measured through the EarthCheck Online Self Assessment. All results are assessed and verified by third party auditors on an annual basis.
To achieve Silver Certification a participating hotel is required to have a sustainable policy in place and to implement an environmental action plan for proper monitoring and measurements on 10 key performance areas, namely greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, management of freshwater resources, ecosystem conservation and management, social and cultural management, land use planning and management, air quality protection, wastewater management, solid waste management, and elimination of environmentally harmful substances.
Originally opened in 1983 as the first property of Centara Hotels & Resorts, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok has 565 rooms and suites, the majority of them offering views across the green expanse of Chatuchak Park.
The hotel has nine restaurants and bars, a Spa Cenvaree, a fitness centre, and an outdoor swimming pool set in lush gardens. Stations for the MTR subway and the BTS Skytrain are located adjacent to the hotel, and the elevated expressway ensures that Suvarnabhumi International Airport is only 30 minutes away.
