Keele University short-listed for VisitEngland award

Keele University Conferences and Events (KUC&E) has been short-listed in the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence for its commitment to business tourism. The Staffordshire venue beat stiff competition from across the country and as a finalist will achieve a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended in the Business Tourism category to be announced in May.

Keele impressed the judges with its meetings, conferences and exhibitions offering, having demonstrated its ability to provide first-class facilities and deliver outstanding customer service.

Situated on the UK’s largest University campus, KUC&E has been hosting conferences, large-scale events, meetings, seminars and special events for more than 40 years.  The business recently claimed a number of wins at The University Caterers Organisation Awards and now has a 13-strong experienced events management team who last year welcomed more than 120,000 visitors onto campus, including 10,000 residential delegates, 20,000 wedding guests and over 30,000 day delegates.

During the last two years, the University has made substantial improvements to its facilities across campus including the refurbishment of Keele Hall – Keele’s 19th century, Grade-II listed building, as well as the University’s central campus complex, which now features new seminar rooms and a renovated exhibition space. In addition, 600 of Keele’s 2,000 overnight rooms have been refurbished and the University has rolled out free wi-fi across campus for all visitors.

The KUC&E team will only find out what they have won on awards night at Cheltenham Racecourse, Monday 12 May 2014 during an evening celebrating the very best of English tourism. The VisitEngland Awards promote healthy industry competition and high standards, helping to ensure England's place as a world-class destination.

Speaking about Keele’s award win, James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland said: “I would like to congratulate all those nominated as finalists for this year’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.  We receive hundreds of applications each year of an extremely high standard, so it is a tremendous achievement for Keele University Conferences and Events to become a finalist and to represent the top four in their category in England.  I wish all the finalists the very best of luck for the Awards Ceremony in May.”

Marcus Wilson, Head of Commercial Marketing at Keele University, added: “Each year we welcome an international audience to Keele and relish the opportunity to promote Keele Hall and the University campus to the rest of the country. As part of a world-class University, we pride ourselves on delivering the same standard of excellence for those visiting the campus for conferences and events and in the last four decades we have worked hard to ensure our service and facilities are competitive on a national scale.

“It means a great deal to us to have been short-listed by VisitEngland for our commitment to business tourism. The award is testament to the hard work of our team who have built a reputation for excellence by going above and beyond for clients, delivering a solution whatever their needs.”
