Winners of the 2014 Hudson’s Heritage Awards to be announced this month

The winners of the prestigious 2014 Hudson’s Heritage Awards which celebrate the best heritage experiences will be announced at a lunch reception on Tuesday 18 February at Goldsmiths Hall, London. The awards, which were established in 2011, are an independently judged annual national awards scheme open to historic houses, gardens, museums and heritage sites.

The 2014 awards will be presented by Loyd Grossman OBE and attended by 80 guests including owners and managers of the winning entries, representatives of the heritage tourist industry and the media. The lunch is hosted by the independent judging panel of heritage experts: Chairman Norman Hudson OBE, heritage consultant; Lucinda Lambton, writer and broadcaster; Jeremy Musson, architectural writer; and Simon Foster, consultant to Channel 4’s Country House Rescue. This year’s sponsors are Smith & Williamson, Spear’s magazine, the Whetstone Group, Peel Heritage and Signpost hotel guide.

The 11 categories reward a range of visitor experiences and recognise the best heritage attractions in the whole of the UK. Categories include Best Family Day Out; Best Wedding Venue; Best Eating Out; Best Accommodation, Best New Discovery; Hidden Gem; Best Event; Best Commercial Innovation; Best Shopping and Best New Commission which are each nominated by heritage attractions. Best Heritage Picnic Spot is nominated by members of the public. Previous winners have included Blenheim Palace, Woburn Abbey and Dunvegan Castle.

Sarah Greenwood, publisher of market leading guide, Hudson’s Historic Houses & Gardens said “Hudson’s Heritage Awards lead the way in gaining public recognition for some of the best experiences to be had on a day out in the UK. Owners and managers of heritage attractions from the National Trust to small independents and from flagship world heritage sites to tiny local museums are global leaders in understanding the needs of visitors. Hudson’s is proud to be involved with a scheme which gives a little back to those who work so hard to make experiences at heritage sites such a pleasure”.
