Elegant Eat will host a bi-monthly series of events to reinforce the culinary excellence and tradition at Edgbaston. Under the guidance of Dave Hill, Edgbaston’s head chef, guests will enjoy tasting menus that draw on the season’s harvest and local larder while enjoying commanding views over the outfield and stadium.
Edgbaston Stadium has a long standing reputation for its food offering and was winner of Waitrose’s Cricket Cook Off competition. The launch of Elegant Eat reflects the importance placed on food by guests in both the match-day and non-match day experience.
The inaugural event took place in mid-July and treated the guests and local food writers a showstopping five course tasting menu comprising; rabbit paired with pancetta to start, crab with watermelon, horseradish, cucumber and crispy pork crackling. The centre-piece course saw sirloin and oxtail accompanied by beetroot and watercress. A chocolate and cherry dessert hit the mark for the sweet toothed guests and a selection of local cheeses concluded the tasting menu.
Paul Fulford, noted food and drink critic attended the launch and said he was, “knocked for six by Elegant Eat” and that, “this was intelligent and technically accomplished cooking – bringing together ingredients in imaginative, surprising, skilled and satisfying ways.”
Claire Daniel, head of catering at Edgbaston, said: “The evening allowed our chefs to demonstrate their fine dining credentials, wowing guests with a menu full of seasonal flavour and clever craftsmanship. It’s a great way to launch our new restaurant and I am extremely excited for the next Elegant Eat evening.”
